  1. The Dodgers have $59mill coming off the books, headlined by Conforto ($17mill) and Kirby Yates ($13mill). They have 6 potential arbitration cases, none for anyone “essential”, totaling about another $17mill. The biggest arbs are Evan Phillips ($6.1mill this year) and Tony Gonsolin ($5.4mill). Any or all could realistically be non-tendered, giving them up to about $76mill freed up…
  2. Wasn’t that the logic behind Greene for Duran, Abreu, Perales, Tolle, and Romero or whatever it was that was proposed earlier?
  3. Agreed, and for Greene, I doubt Abreu moves thr needle nearly as much as Duran does. Lodolo for Abreu doesn’t seem unrealistic, or at least seems more realistic that Duran for Greene…
  4. Krusty postulated earlier that the Reds hold “all the cards.” But they are team with the specific needs. They need an outfielder that 1) can provide offense 2) remain affordable and 3) potentially play CF if they need to move Friedl to LF. Duran is on a very short list here. Especially since none of Roman Anthony, Jackson Chourio and Wyatt Langford figure to be available any time soon. Not sure why the Sox are expected to overpay by so much. Sure the Reds have the option of looking elsewhere, but is there a better fit for them that is available?
  5. I doubt it, too. They need outfielders that can hit. Neither Rafaela nor Campbell have shown that ability yet…
  6. Not sure why you keep bringing up Crochet. His career doesn’t change that Hunter Greene has very obvious durability issues. And citing “only started less than 22 games one time in 4 years” really isn’t the evidence against this that you appear to have presented it as. Greene has talent. No one questions that. I would overpay for him. But not to the level many seem to think it would require. It’s all moot anyway because if the Reds are trading him, they know something. They’re not moving their ace to get outfield offense. The Sox need hitting, too, but you don’t hear rumors about trading Crochet. Greene will be a Red next year. I feel much more confident about that statement than I do about saying the same for Lodolo, and especially for Singer…
  7. It doesn’t help that Boston is saddled with media that lives pushing conspiracy theories. This past year, I kept seeing stories about Devers being traded solely so Liverpool could afford their new star. This story was concocted because bad news sells, unlike good news. And it ignored that 1) Liverpool FC is far wealthier than the Sox and 2) that star (Florian Wirtz, who apparently was not Arya’s fencing instructor) made peanuts compared to Devers.
  8. Didn’t you cite WAR as a deterrent for Hoskins and Bell? That was exactly why I brought it up…
  9. Milwaukee has an $8mill team option and is coming off a season in which they made the NLCS. Is Peralta even available?
  10. Crochet averaged less because he spent most of his career as a reliever. Greene has always been a starter. 91 games. 91 starts…
  11. Deferred money is still spent. If you don’t believe me, ask MasterCard…
  12. Greene averages about 125 IP per season. I can’t make him a top ten SP until he starts hitting a minimum of 150 IP per season regularly. He has every ability except for two - availability and durability…
  13. The Mets spent even more…
  14. He won’t derail any team playing there occasionally. New man’s calling card used to be his glove, and Moore is a GG utility man (somehow)…
  15. IKF is good. Also, Dylan Moore, Willi Castro and Kevin Newman are free agents…
  16. I love the idea of Paredes at Fenway. Granted, he would set records for wall ball singles, which is not a bad thing. Defensively, he putters around average for a 3b. Also not bad. Not great, but not bad. Both he and Duran have 3 arb years left and both probably make about $8mill this year. Paredes is a 2-3 bWAR player, whereas Duran is more of a 5-6bWAR player. BTV absolutely hates it as a 1 for 1 deal, with Paredes having a surplus value of $8.7 mill and Duran having one of $70.3 mill. But it is a need-for-need trade and something could be worked out. Giving up Duran or not, Paredes is a good idea for Boston. And a potential surplus for Houston, who acquired Cam Smith in the same trade…
  17. I have to defer to you on the level of management hatred, but unless you’re Bob Kraft during the Patriots run or Steinbrenner in the late 1990’s, isnt every front office hated by someone? I remember seeing posts about how Epstein ruined the Red Sox DURING THE 2007 POSTSEASON RUN!
  18. Harmony is at home sticking pins in a little Dan Wilson doll* *Available for $24.99 at the Voodoo Hut on the T-Mobil park mezzanine…
  19. Possible. But do you think the Sox will (not can, not should, but will) DFA Yoshida and pay him $36.4mill, pay Alonso, pay Bregman, and then pay Hoskins and still offer arbitration to Casas?
  20. Or the Sox re-investigate the availability of blocked prospect Dalton Rushing. Reportedly the Dodgers were trying to move him to the OF. Why not just deal him for an OF? He matches up nicely with Abreu on BTV, but Duran is a much better fit for the Dodgers. (Rushing alone should not be enough for a Duran.)
  21. Given who was coming up, I found myself yelling “bring in Munoz!” Lukes isnt so frightening but with Vlad just two hitters away? Bazardo has been up and down too often this postseason. Was he saving Munoz to face Varsho, Clement, and Barger in the 9th?
  22. The last 3 years of McCourt ownership were not good, but during their tenure with the team, “crappy product” and “misery” ignores a lot of the successes that franchise had. No one said they were terrific people…
  23. “Star power” shouldn’t mean “expensive players that used to be really good.” Springer hadn’t been the 5-6 bWAR player in Toronto that he was in Houston. He’s been a good player, but his 14.4 bWAR in 5 years isn’t dramatically different that the 6.6 bWAR Wilyer Abreu has posted in just two. Do fans want good players or pricey players with big names and pasts they can no longer replicate?
  24. Also, might as well bring it up but if the Sox sign both Alonso and Bregman, why exactly would they need Hoskins? They still have Casas, and Yoshida isnt likely to go anywhere. How many 1b/DH types should they squeeze on to the roster? And what position should they eliminate to do so?
  25. Well, back then you could go see a movie for 50 cents, a loaf of bread was free, and a Hall of Famer cost you $40,000…
