  1. You have to wonder how much “modern” thinking would have messed with guys like Greg Maddox or Tom Glavine.
  2. I think you might be surprised if relief pitchers were actually allowed to go more than an inning at a time and starters were expected to go 7 or more. Train them to go it and I think they can. Learn to get out of the messes you get into. Learn to pitch when you don’t have your best stuff.
  3. That’s probably not true. The EEI guys were saying that pitchers are babied from the moment they sign. They aren’t trained to go even 6 innings any more, let alone 9. So a change will take a few years and start in Rookie and Low A ball. They gave a quote (or at least a paraphrase) from Curt Schilling. Pitchers are like dogs, they do what you train them to do.
  4. Really? Do you even know what the word monopoly means? No other team in MLB has even one s***** reliever?
  5. Were they available today? Based on the choices made tonight, I’d guess no. That’s info that Cora has and we don’t. DHern went 2 last night, throwing 42 pitches. Workman went 1 1/3, threw 29 pitches, maybe half of which are for strikes. He may have been available for a one inning save, but no way was he going more than 1.
  6. Yes, you did. Full credit there. I take issue with the posters who only comment on a move after the results are known.
  7. And bring in who? Taking Brasier out is only half the move.
  8. Who else are you going to use? Pen went 11 last night and 7 so far tonight.
  9. So tell us the sure to work moves you would have made.
  10. See, you make criticisms or question moves as they happen. Too many here only make them after the results are known.
  11. Well thanks to the defensive changes, Sox will start the 9th with Leon hitting and they can’t hit for him.
  12. You do indeed possess 20-20 hindsight.
  13. Two balls hit to perfect spots. If Devers is back, does he turn 2?
  14. Decision on JD may just have been made.
  15. Be interesting to see what he does in the bottom of the 8th. I think you will see JBJ come in for JD. Moreland only comes in if they get past Leon in the batting order, so maybe in the 9th.
  16. Why not; I’m sure he’ll give all the consideration it deserves. Too early to do it; you want JBJ or Moreland up in the 8th instead of JD?
  17. Need somebody who can at least go 2-3 innings. Cashner’s not available. Plus the past few games, Johnson’s issues have been in the first inning he pitches, then he’s okay for a couple. Have to hope that pattern continues tonight.
  18. If you are so miserable watching the modern game, why do continue to do so? I’m not thrilled with many aspects of it either, but I don’t feel the need to make every post about it.
  19. Taylor Velasquezed that inning.
  20. Hate to put a damper on that thought, but the A's won 97 games and made the playoffs a year ago, pulling away from Tampa to do so. They've been in this exact situation before.
  21. Mata is a 20 year old kid who has pitched all of 9 games at AA and hasn’t been all that good that that level yet. Yes he has potential but no way is he ready for a call up.
  22. That last part may make Price go Eck on you
  23. As Dewey said, all the money from today went to the Jimmy Fund.
  24. The radio crew was saying that Yaz plans to be at Fenway when the Giants come in next month.
  25. Don’t need a CPA for that one. Salaries are fully deductible as a business expense (as they should be). Doesn’t matter what size the company.
