  1. 17 days until the reset is valid. They cancel it September 2, I don't care.
  2. I'm not sure, did JD strike out 4 times on 12 pitches tonight?
  3. I was responding more to the OP's second sentence.
  4. I’d cut him a break tonight. He’s a closer pitching in a blow-out game who hasn’t pitched in a week. I’d expect him to be much sharper next time out (assuming that’s not sometime around Labor Day).
  5. Don’t get me wrong. I just was always stunned that Ortiz never once hit 3 in a game.
  6. It is an amazing feat. Of course, the Sox had another player who hit 541 home runs and never hit 3 in a game.
  7. Didn’t the Rays go something like 8-1 at Fenway last year?
  8. They picked up Christian Arroyo on waivers today from the Guardians. He’s out of options so he has to stay with the major league roster or designated again. Lin in trouble roster wise? This acquisition just could be the missing piece.
  9. They might be but only in long relief. Game gets a bit out of hand early situations. If they hold the other team, they give the Sox a slim chance of coming back. If they don’t, at least they save the short relievers.
  10. Tampa sure has the Sox number at Fenway the last couple years.
  11. Would appreciate score updates folks. A derecho swept through here yesterday and we’ve had no power/internet for over a day now. This is one of the few sites that data will load reasonably quickly.
  12. Who? At what positions? Who are you getting rid of? The Sox system is not replete with great talent, and this year there are no minor leagues. You’ve got 30 guys at the alternate site, that’s it.
  13. Maybe a few suspensions are in order for willingly violating protocols.
  14. Another plus from today; Devers hitting the ball hard his last 2 times up. Maybe he’s going to come out of it. JD looks absolutely lost without his video binkie.
  15. This year, all you have to do is finish second to be assured a playoff spot. Right now the Sox are 1 game behind the Orioles for second place. They are 2 games behind Detroit for the top wild card spot (#7 seed) and 1/2 game back of Tampa for the last slot.
  16. Brice is a two pitch pitcher. Those guys typically don't fare well as starters unless one of those pitchers is a very plus pitch. Brice does not have a plus pitch. It's modern baseball. Relievers just don't seem to think they can pitch an inning (or part of one), sit down for 10 minutes while their team is batting, and then go back out and do it again. Part of it is the way they are used in the minors. The one's who can do it are generally recently converted starters. Personally, it's something that ought to be worked on in a normal spring training. Pitch a guy for an out or 2, sit him down and send him back out again. That could be done in an exhibition game or in a simulated one. This year was not a normal spring training, so I'll give a pass on it this time around. As for Brice, he looks like he could be a fairly reliable middle reliever, but he's been up and down for 5 years seasons for a reason. Three decent games does not warrant an expanded bullpen role.
  17. Dalas, how many times do you have to be told that in-game commentary belongs in the game thread. It's called The Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum and can be found right above this forum. There's a separate thread for each game.
  18. Sums up the season though. The Rays got 3 huge breaks (Martinez’s double hopping into the stands, the missed strike three and the catwalk foul pop up) and took advantage of all of them. The Sox couldn’t get a hit with anyone in scoring position.
  19. Do the Yankees have a moveable wall out there. Seems like it moves in and out, up and down depending on which team hits it.
  20. Yeah, I noticed that too. One thing to say wow, I’m not sure the Yankee announcers would get that excited. A little disgusting actually.
  21. That was hit an awful long way. Wow.
  22. Go to the game thread for in game commentary
  23. Agree. If Beni (or any other player) has this same 10 game stretch in the middle of June (in a normal season), its just a slump. Why is it when it happens at the start of a season (any season), it's panic time. Beni may never live up to his potential. He may also bloom later on. Time will tell. Benintendi's career slash line: .274/.354/.438/.792 in 479 games Here is another Sox outfielder thru his age 26 season (same age as Beninitendi): .258/.337/.440/.777 in 764 games People who would have given up on the latter would not have had Dwight Evans patrolling right field for 19 years in Boston. I'm not saying Beni will turn into Evans as he ages. My point is you don't give up on certain players because of a bad 10 games or even a bad season. This team is not going to win anything this year; no matter how good the offense is, the pitching isn't there, and the loss of ERod makes that even moreso.
