  1. Ding ding ding. We have a winner. And if you want to talk top 1% of wage earners, every player making the major league minimum is in that. (That level kicks in at around $421K).
  2. They were on their 11th reliever, so yeah, I’d say they ran out.
  3. Definitely another era. I see he did that in 10 years with the Cubs. He added another 90 in 6 years with the Rangers and 23 in 2 years with the Sox.
  4. That’s one way of viewing it, and if you want go over several years, sure. For an individual year, no. Are you really going to say that the best division in baseball in 2006 was the NL Central because the Cards won the a World Series after an 86 win season?
  5. For what it’s worth (as of this moment): AL West has 176 wins against the East and Central AL East has 164 wins against the Central and the West AL Central has 147 wins against the East and West I did not include inter league games because the teams aren’t playing the same slate. Have to give it to the West this year. There is also no equivalent of the Tigers, Royals and Orioles in the West.
  6. Walks, walks, walks. Bullpen walked 5 guys, 4 of them scored and the 5th was on base on the game winning hit. As I said earlier, it sums up the season.
  7. Cash might have; he overmanages IMO, but in his case, he has the bullpen to back it up.
  8. Only thing I’ll say is he needs to find out what DHern can do in game pressure situations. Overall, the results have not been great this year for Darwinzon in that regard. Obviously the move didn’t work, but those screaming for see what the kids can do should be happy.
  9. Noted, and I agreed with your thought, especially at 87 pitches. I’m listening on XM Radio outside Yellowstone NP. I’m refraining from posting reactions to the game due to the time delay on the broadcast, which can be 3-4 minutes based on experience.
  10. You really are a sick individual when it comes to Cora. Fire him, fine. Joking about killing him is sick.
  11. Mal, when you do decide it’s time to hang it up, know that you will be greatly missed. Thank you for your contributions here but beyond that, know that your contributions to this country over the course of a long life can never be repaid. I hope you have as many years left as you desire. Once again, thank you.
  12. Agree. Both had high expectations. 2011 was a total September collapse; this year’s team never had it all year.
  13. The 40 man September roster is done this year. Next year will bring a 26 man roster from Opening Day through August and a mandatory 28 man one in September. All teams must use 28 man rosters in September; right now you can call up any number from 0 to 15.
  14. You guessed it. Grew up in the very small town of Oxford in southwestern CT (population was about 4500 back then). In 1984, I took a job as a civilian engineer with the Department of the Army in the Quad Cities and never left, retiring a year ago. Never wanted to live in a big city, though visiting them is okay.
  15. Careful, I actually live in one of those. Not everyone is on love with big cities.
  16. How about Nashville? Memphis? New Orleans? San Antonio? Charlotte, Indianapolis and Columbus support major league teams in other sports. There are more.
  17. Please let us know when you get that big league managing gig so we can parse every stupid move you make.
  18. I’d be a lot more impressed with your amazing analysis of moves if you relayed them at the time they are made rather than after the results are known. I’m not talking about just this one, which is a head scratcher.
  19. Maybe Bumgarner? An AL pitcher? It might go back to a guy like Sonny Siebert. I guess the question is do you trust ERod or the pen (for 3 innings)? Not an easy choice given overall results this year.
  20. He hit well, but IIRC weren’t there a few incidents that took place outside the white lines? I think there was something with Youkilis (not passing judgement on that one as Youkilis could be an ass at times, but the two did clash). And the physical confrontation with the travel secretary over game tickets. None of us were in the clubhouse so none of knows what was happening behind the scenes. More than likely both sides have culpability in the parting of ways.
  21. Wasn’t 2008 the year that Manny said he had a bad knee and when the Sox trainers asked him which one hurt he said he didn’t know? The season certainly would have ended differently without the trade. But it would have depended on which Manny played and nobody knows the answer to that.
  22. Williams job in 67 was incredible, but he really did nothing with Boston after that and was gone before the 1969 season was over. He really made his mark managing the early 70s Oakland teams. It’s way too early to evaluate Cora. He’s made mistakes this year. But he’s still a second year manager with a lot to learn.
  23. Jung, don’t you know that logic and reason have no place here? I won’t even mention patience. Emotion rules. Must win every game. Scratch that, must win every inning, or heads have to roll.
