    You are likely correct with the time thing. Unless there’s an injury, he has to stay down for 10 days. He was sent down on the 3rd, so he isn’t eligible to come back up until the 13th.

    Jackson, you’ve been a gracious “loser” over the my time here (“loser” in the sense that your team has finished behind the Sox). You’ve been respectful of the results. You are on your rivals board. Time to be a gracious “winner”. However, you’ve been an ******* as a “winner”. We all know the Sox story this year. You don’t need to make multiple threads and posts rubbing it in.

    And that’s exactly what he is, an average pitcher. See post 105 for more.

    Until this year, he has basically gone out 33 times a year, usually gone 6-7 innings and on average allowed 3-4 runs a game. In other words, he’s gone out and given his team a chance to win the game, which they have done 60% of the time. I’m not sure what you expect out of a guy who’s a #3/#4 starter. Yes he has totally sucked this year; there is no sugarcoating that. Unlike you, I am not going sound tough by saying I’ll embarrass a guy by DFAing him in the middle of an inning. You want to totally lose a club and make sure no one ever wants to play in Boston again, be my guest and do it.

    I don’t. It’s not good. But for whatever reason, they win when he pitches, and in pro sports, that’s the bottom line.

    The Sox are 90-61 in games he’s started for Boston. Yes, he’s gotten some insane run support but the bottom line is they win at a 60% clip when he starts.

    Why punish Porcello? Ever looked at Cashner’s track record? Both are past their prime, but unlike Cashner, at least Porcello had a prime.

    Oh no. I’d put him in the pen as the long guy. He can eat the innings for others in situations where it really wouldn’t matter if he sucked. He can serve as a pinch runner as well. Be even better if it was September. Then he could be just sent to the pen and never be used.

    No, the stats count whether they play or not. It’s an official game. Eovaldi gets a blown save because he allowed the tie run to score.

    While the history looks good on most of these, one concern I would have is most if not all of them were much stockier than Sale. Most were 210 lbs plus with a couple topping 240. Sale is what, 6’6” and 180 soaking wet? Most of those guys used their legs, Sale is much more whip arm. I hope you’re right, but it does give me some pause.

    It would be part of the CBA language. I would not allow the salary of a player injured during the season to be exempt from luxury tax considerations for that season. You were counting on that player for that year and he got hurt. However, I would be in favor in a situation like Pedroia’s where the it’s a career ending injury to allow that salary (or at least a portion of it) to “go off the books”. And it can’t be discretionary; it would have to be verified independently of the team. From a players association point of view, all Pedroia’s case means is that there’s ~$25 million not available to go to other players. Don’t know enough about the Prince Fielder case or Ellsbury’s situation go know if the Rangers or Yankees would be able to put those contracts off the books. If they are similar enough, I’d have no problem with it.
