  1. You replied too fast, assuring my inability to type with my fat thumbs will stay on in cyberspace forever
  2. Somebody opined that it may have happened to Porcello this year with his bullpen duty from last October. No idea if it’s true but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
  3. Excellent Danny. Your handle tells me you are a contemporary of mine. I think for the younger crowd, they don’t have that experience of failure. They’ve heard about it, but they didn’t live it. Aparicio falling down going around 3rd in 1973 and the Sox falling 1/2 game short to the Tigers because they played one less game due to a strike. Johnson pinch hitting for Willoughby in Game 7 in 75. Bucky “Bleeping” Dent. Game 6 in 86. The list goes on and on. I hoped I would see 1 title in my lifetime; I’ve been blessed with 4. I’d love to see more, but if they don’t happen, it’s okay. In his book Ball Four, Jim Bouton relays a story from early in his career (1962/63) when he went into the Yankee GM’s office to ask for a raise (I think he won 20 the year before) and basically was told no. He was told that he could always count on that World Series check. I don’t ever want to become that entitled but I fear some are.
  4. Well, Hembree looked hurt so he’s likely going back on the IL. Brasier probably comes back up. We are saved!!!!!
  5. Might not be the worst idea, although Moreland is the only one who has a prayer of being claimed since his contract is up. Pearce is hurt and the rest have too many years left.
  6. Okay, I’ll play. Red Sox will start the playoffs in about 425 days.
  7. Hernandez and Taylor can go with Barnes and Workman. They’ve been up and down but they are rookies; I expect some fluctuation in their performances. They’ve at least showed flashes and could get better with some experience. The rest, no.
  8. The difference is the Rays pitching goes one time through the rotation not doing well and then they start pitching good to great again and it stays that way for 4-6 weeks. The Sox go through the rotation once pitching well and then revert to s*** for 4-6 weeks.
  9. Where’s that very used prop job the Guardians flew in in Major League?
  10. It may be childish but getting on the bus or plane (however and whenever they head to New York), they can all carry their own luggage. You want to play like a bunch of minor leaguers, we’ll treat you like minor leaguers. At the very least the pitching staff can do it.
  11. The Rays are a lot better than you give them credit for. For one thing, they can pitch. They lead the league in ERA. They won 90 games last year. They may not be a World Series contenders but they are a decent team. That’s no excuse for the utter lack of competitiveness in this series. You lose 3 tight games, okay. Well not okay, but you’re in the game, you have a chance. It happens. This was pathetic and it all goes back to the starting pitching.
  12. Benintendi is the 11th player in Sox history with 3 doubles in a game without scoring a run. Ortiz was the last in 2011. Worst thing is they were all lead off doubles.
  13. They can’t trade him if he opts out, and even if he stays , he can still opt out after the 2020 and 2021 seasons. That’s going to make him much more difficult to trade.
  14. Depends on what kind of team they field. He gets more of a pass if they gut the team.
  15. I don’t think the “it” factor that all championship teams seem to have was never there and would not have been. It wasn’t going to be if Cora had run the tightest camp in the history of spring training.
  16. My response was due to the your statement that Castillo would be off the books. You are correct; they have to pay him anyway but he doesn’t cost extra unless they bring him up.
  17. Castillo is not on the books unless they bring him up. If they do, he counts thru 2021. Pedroia isn’t going to retire. He won’t play, but he’s not going to officially retire.
  18. The spring training regimen explains April. It has utterly no bearing on the current performance of this team.
  19. Looks like he was crossed up to me; the fact that he visited the mound right after tells me he was.
  20. Devers quits on a catchable foul ball that should have ended the inning.
  21. Vazquez is banged up from that foul off his knee last night; I don’t see him playing tonight.
  22. I don't see JBJ back. They can find someone to backfill at less cost. It wont save the entire $10M, but maybe half of it. Wright will be released, not that he saves that much. Leon will be gone as well. I think somebody may get a bit of a bargain with Porcello but it wont be the Sox. This is by far the worst year he's ever had; someone will take a flyer on him for a year at 1/3 of what he's making now. The Sox can't afford that chance.
  23. I'm guessing that there may have been brief inquiries on a few guys that were quickly rejected. Barnes may have drawn some interest as a 6-7-8th inning guy. Ditto Workman. I'm sure teams asked about Hernandez. The rest, no.
  24. Listening to the game with Castiglione and company and they made it sound as if it went over the pole, though now that I think about it, they may have said higher than the pole.
