  1. Maybe Bumgarner? An AL pitcher? It might go back to a guy like Sonny Siebert. I guess the question is do you trust ERod or the pen (for 3 innings)? Not an easy choice given overall results this year.
  2. He hit well, but IIRC weren’t there a few incidents that took place outside the white lines? I think there was something with Youkilis (not passing judgement on that one as Youkilis could be an ass at times, but the two did clash). And the physical confrontation with the travel secretary over game tickets. None of us were in the clubhouse so none of knows what was happening behind the scenes. More than likely both sides have culpability in the parting of ways.
  3. Wasn’t 2008 the year that Manny said he had a bad knee and when the Sox trainers asked him which one hurt he said he didn’t know? The season certainly would have ended differently without the trade. But it would have depended on which Manny played and nobody knows the answer to that.
  4. Williams job in 67 was incredible, but he really did nothing with Boston after that and was gone before the 1969 season was over. He really made his mark managing the early 70s Oakland teams. It’s way too early to evaluate Cora. He’s made mistakes this year. But he’s still a second year manager with a lot to learn.
  5. Jung, don’t you know that logic and reason have no place here? I won’t even mention patience. Emotion rules. Must win every game. Scratch that, must win every inning, or heads have to roll.
  6. As I pointed out earlier today somewhere, NIRDO has been vastly overstated here: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/19439-Countdown-to-Playoffs-2019-edition?p=1284413&viewfull=1#post1284413
  7. And I’ve pointed out to him that there is a Yankee board here that he can post his Propaganda to. Youk has been pretty much persona non grata for months now; JasonBay only slightly less so. I’m guessing if they were able to be around more a lot of this non-Sox stuff would be policed better.
  8. I don’t care if you want to criticize or praise Trump or any other politician. I don’t want to see any politics in a game thread. Youk made that pretty clear that’s the rule several times. Pretty sure there’s a General thread that’s more appropriate for that. Also, some anti-Cora posts are no big deal, but when it’s all you post ...
  9. So why are you watching? Honestly, your zeal to criticize everything Cora is becoming almost as tiresome as jacksonmarch’s crowing about the Yankees.
  10. Good God, it’s over. Just admit it.
  11. A while back I posted the number of games each of these guys has missed. As of now, the Sox have played 145 games. Betts has played in 143, starting 141. Bogaerts has played in and started 139 (IIRC, he has gotten 1 game off each month of the season). Devers has played in 141, starting 137. At least a couple of his misses and games not started were when he had that hamstring issue. Let's not pretend these guys are getting a game off a week. And anyone who thinks travel days are days off is an idiot. The year's over as far as making the postseason. No need to begrudge any player a day off now, especially those three.
  12. And you know this how? It’s been the same all year; nothing has really changed.
  13. Yep. Had the chance to break it open, failed to do so. How many times have we seen that this year?
  14. Could very well be. All I know is he came into tonight slashing .419/.514/1.000/1.514 against the Sox and with what he’s done tonight, only the OBP has gone down (it’s 2-4 tonight so it’s gone down slightly). Personally, I think his butt should have hit the dirt a couple times this year.
  15. Tellez has killed us all year. Hasn’t mattered who’s been on the mound.
  16. Problem is Theo holds the same position with the Cubs that DD had with the Red Sox. It would be a lateral move which are generally frowned upon in MLB. At best the Cubs would want significant compensation, and it will be far beyond what the teams worked out last time.
  17. The standard rule of thumb is teams generally don’t allow lateral moves. So if Hazen is a candidate, it would have to be for Dombrowski’s current position rather than a straight up GM job.
  18. Mal has a serious man crush on Big Papi. Personally, I don’t see why David would ever want to wade into the world of baseball management at any level.
  19. Most of us would love to pretend we care, but don’t. You have become a complete dick.
  20. There’s even a board here where he can post to his delight. Hint Assman, it ain’t this one.
  21. You really need to learn the value of an unexpressed thought.
  22. I think even the most optimistic must now agree with this:
  23. I’ve sort of jokingly said several times that the Red Sox always do well the first 18 years of a century. Let’s just hope history doesn’t repeat for the next 15 years because the Sox really sucked from 1919 until 1934. And I mean sucked as in last place finishes for a lot of years in a row.
