    7 games, 6 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 3 runs (all earned), 4 walks and 8 Ks don’t exactly scream good nor “I should be promoted today”. Andriese can’t be sent directly down; he has to clear waivers plus he cannot be sent down without his permission. I’m not advocating for Andriese; I just don’t see Valdez as that viable an option. Andriese’s days on the roster are less than or equal to the number of days until Chris Sale is back on it.

    What’s he doing in Worcester that would merit a recall? Give me (a) reason(s) to sign the petition. Not bring Andriese is not a reason.

    Well, he didn't make the Olympic team, so that factor is off the table (one of the reasons is because the Red Sox said they wanted to be able to call him up at anytime). However, unless there is an injury to one of the OFs (and it would probably have to be Verdugo or Renfroe), he will stay at Worcester; he's not going to come up to sit on the bench.

    I just always found it incredible that he never allowed a grand slam in the majors while pitching that long and for that many innings. He did walk home a run 13 times (something he was not afraid to do, reasoning 1 run was better than 4). There was an article I saw a while back in which the reporter started giving him a list of 12 names. The reporter got 3 names in and Palmer responded oh, those are the guys I walked with the bases loaded.

    Jim Palmer is the poster child for this. In 19 years, 558 games and 3948 innings, he allowed 303 home runs. 193 were solo shots. 83 were 2-run homers 27 were 3-run homers 0 were grand slams (he did allow one in a minor league game to some guy named Johnny Bench). He also apparently never allowed back-to-back homers.

    To be honest, while JBJ had a cannon, he wasn’t consistently accurate with his throws. He had more than a few 2-3 bouncers or throws well off line.

    If it was game 7 of the World Series, it would be a traditional extra innings game. These rules don’t apply in the postseason.

    He’d have been helped immensely if the strike zone from the top of the 9th was the same as the one in the bottom of the 9th.

    Barnes didn’t get either of the first 2 pitches, both of which were closer than the one to Chavis in the top of the inning.

    That was set up by the strike 2 call, which was 3-4 inches outside.

    Gonzalez ruined the shutout. Game should have been over but he ole'd that grounder that would have ended the game. Run was unearned after that error.

    In case anyone missed it, the Angels hit Chapman and the Yanks with a 7 spot in the top of 9th last night to win that game.

    It won’t matter to the doom & gloomers. They just don’t get that sometimes major league hitters hit home runs, even on good pitches.

    Couple of thoughts: 1) Minor is a right handed pitcher; Dalbec has been, shall we say, pretty weak against righties this season. 2) More likely. Dalbec had to come out of last night's game, seemingly with some heat related issue. He may not be over it yet and they are probably being cautious with him. As of right now, it appears to be 92 in Boston with a heat index of 99.

    The other provision is there has to be less than 2 out. It’s designed to prevent the defense from turning an easy double or triple play since the runners have to hold their bases. With just a guy on first, if the D let’s it drop, it should only be a force play unless the hitter doesn’t bother to run and that’s on the offense. It doesn’t apply on bunts.

    You talking about the Vazquez pop up? If so, the rule isn’t applicable since it requires men on 1st and 2nd (obviously bases loaded fits that requirement) and in this case, only first was occupied.

    One of those things. I remember when the Mariners first came into the league back in 1977, the Yankees, in the midst of a pair of 100 win seasons and 2 World Series titles, had a heck of a time winning in Seattle. They went something like 3-8 out there those years and added another 1-4 or so in 1979. The expansion Mariners would win 64 and 56 games those first 2 years. The Yanks just struggled out there. In contrast, the Sox went 8-2 in Seattle those same years.
