  1. That last part may make Price go Eck on you
  2. As Dewey said, all the money from today went to the Jimmy Fund.
  3. The radio crew was saying that Yaz plans to be at Fenway when the Giants come in next month.
  4. Don’t need a CPA for that one. Salaries are fully deductible as a business expense (as they should be). Doesn’t matter what size the company.
  5. The Salem guys would have been fired a couple weeks ago.
  6. I had just turned 9 and didn’t get to see any part of the games until I got home from school, so I’ll accept your description.
  7. If it were up to you the Lowell Spinners would be playing in Boston right now and you’d fire them after a week as well.
  8. He did sort of blow up in game 7, but it was on 2 days rest while Gibson was on his normal 3 days. Lonborg did throw a 1 hit shutout in game 2 and followed that up with a 3 hit complete game in game 5.
  9. He just turned 24, born in August 1995.
  10. Nice try, but you really should do better research before attempting such humor. First Cousin marriage is allowed in 24 states, including Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, California and your own New Jersey. The Dakota’s are not among the 24.
  11. What does any of this have to do with the Game Thread. In other words, KNOCK IT OFF.
  12. Betts did not play on May 5 and June 14. He did not start games on April 7 or August 11, though he came in late in the game. So basically, he’s not starting 1 game a month. Bogaerts did not play on April 3, May 1, May 26, July 6 and August 6. He’s had no games where he came in late. Again, about once a month. Devers did not play on May 24, June 9, June 23 and August 10. He did not start April 4, April 23 (Game 1), June 21 and June 22. He came out after 5 innings on June 19 and the Sox had an off day on June 20, so the June 19-23 games are when he had his hamstring issue. He also wasn’t exactly crushing it in April, so a couple of those early ones may have been matchups. Beni has sat out a few games vs. southpaws and they kept him out of the lineup several times around the All-Star break when he was in a total funk at the plate. It worked. Bottom line is “rest” days have about once a month. Some of the other games off were for matchups and injuries. It’s not like they are getting one day off a week. And if you look back at the “old” days, when you think guys never had a day off, you’ll find very few players who even played 162 games, much less started that many. Most were in the 150s played, and less than that started. And yes, I am aware there are exceptions.
  13. So are you moving on from rocket ball posts or doubling up with batters out of the box stuff?
  14. Dave Duncan was a catcher and then a pitching coach for 25 years for very successful Oakland and St. Louis teams. He was considered the gold standard for pitching coaches in his day. I am not comparing LaVangie to him; there is none. But don’t off hand assume that a former catcher knows nothing about pitching. Now, a former outfielder, that I would question.
  15. Travis looking like he may be a serious candidate for 1B next year.
  16. Always remember Joe’s the guy who corrected Bellhorn’s homer in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS. And called ARod’s slap later in the same game. And called fan interference with Betts last year in Houston. He can be a good ump when he wants to be.
  17. Devers is 9th in the majors in average exit velocity (Judge leads). He also leads the majors in balls hit at 95+ mph (he has over twice as many as Judge by the way).
  18. Pineda (4 years) and Romine (8 years) have long time Yankee stench that never seems to wash off. And while that part is said sort of jokingly, I'm hard pressed to come up with any former Yankee, especially one with any measurable time in NY, who has done squat in Boston.
  19. Problem is they have to leapfrog 2 teams and Tampa is behind Oakland.
  20. There are 4 games left with Tampa, so the Sox could cut that deficit in half on their own. But not playing the A’s at all makes it very hard to make up ground on them.
  21. While Fenway is the smallest overall, there is a 32 foot wall in left and a 17 foot wall in center. Those make it more of a doubles park and many a line drive to left that would be out of a lot of parks can end up as singles. Yankee Stadium is more of a home run park because the wall is what, 9 feet high?
  22. Road rate includes the 43 or whatever it was they hit at Camden Yards. They’re all done with Orioles, so the road home run rate figures to take a dive.
  23. One of these guys is going to have to go a couple innings.
