  1. I think the Sox have a very good shot at making it to the postseason. Once you get there, it's really difficult to predict anything. Randomness plays too big a part in baseball. The key is to get to the playoffs, then anything can happen.
  2. That is definitely a plus in Mookie's favor. I don't know if I mentioned it on this site before or not, but I love the shots of Mookie in the dugout having lengthy conversations with one of the coaches. He's like a sponge.
  3. I didn't take it personally. I just don't want to compare that awesome win to the experience of a bowel movement.
  4. Good word. I believe Spud would be the team leader in UGR - Ultimate Grossology Rating
  5. I actually cannot pin down a favorite player. Mookie is definitely up there though.
  6. I love Koji. IMO, he gets an unfair rap because people are trying to hold him to his 2013 standards. Some of his numbers don't look that great, but the bottom line is that he is getting the job done for the most part. Koji has come into the game 26 times with either a tie score or a lead. He maintained the tie or lead in 23 of those chances, and allowed 0 runs in 22 of them. In short, he's 23/26. Kimbrel has come into the game 25 times with either a tie score or a lead. He maintained the tie or lead in 22 of those chances. (I didn't count the time that he came into a tie game with the bases loaded and 1 out against him.) Kimbrel is 22/25. They are nearly identical in terms of getting the job done, which for them is preserving the tie/lead late in the game. Yet the perception of the two pitchers is vastly different. Interesting.
  7. Spud, of all the analogies that you could have come up with, you give me this? It's the last thing I want to compare this win to.
  8. Good at bats by many in the 9th, but IMO, Leon's at bat was the game changer. Great at bat by him. And Koji, striking out the side in vintage fashion. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really needed that win. LOL Let's go!
  9. My sentiments exactly! WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!!
  10. Bingo
  11. Sac bunting is still very much misused. Sac bunting should only be used: 1. Late in the game - 8th inning or later, in very rare cases, maybe in the 7th 2. There's a runner on 2nd base, at least. With a runner on 1st only, with no outs, DO NOT BUNT! 3. Scoring one run is vital. Even if all of the above are true, whether to bunt or not depends on the players involved. You would not have Papi bunting, for instance.
  12. IMO, Vazquez bunting in that situation is certainly defensible, as you said. It was late in the game (8th inning), we were ahead 2-1 and looking for and insurance run, and we had a weak bat at the plate bunting to get to the top of the order. Also, Vazquez has had some success with laying down a sac bunt. Was it the right call? I don't know. I think it's pretty much a 50-50 call in that particular situation. But again, certainly defensible. It looked bad because he failed miserably, but lack of execution does not equate to it being bad call. Personally, I would have preferred him swinging away because he did not necessarily need a hit to score the run, but as you said, he might have just as easily hit into a double play.
  13. I'm not saying I approve of it. Remember, I am against instant replay, period. I'm just saying that I think it's the next step. But yeah, it would definitely disturb the rhythm of the game.
  14. Whenever I see ARod get a game changing or game winning hit, it makes me sick. All I can think is, freaking cheating scumbag. The same is true for Cruz, especially when he played for the Orioles. If we signed a player like Braun, I would have a very difficult time pulling for him, and yet, I would have to pull for him. I don't care how good he is. No thanks.
  15. Price on the mound and UN mojo? We got this! Go Sox!
  16. A lot of posters have been saying something similar, about how this is not a championship caliber team. Does the team have weaknesses? Sure. All teams not named the Cubs do. But even a team like the Cubs, who look like a championship caliber team, are by no means a shoe in to win the championship. Most people felt that we looked like a championship team in April and May. As much as we've scuffled in June, we are still 2nd in baseball in run differential. That says something. We are not getting blown out by the competition. Also, the Sox, the Cubs, and the Guardians are the only teams that haven't lost 4 games in a row. The point there being that all teams have rough patches and mild losing streaks. As the old saying goes, you are never as bad as you look when things are going bad.
  17. I think you're absolutely correct that trying to use the existing Pitch/FX system to aid the umpires in making the correct call would slow the game down. The technology does exist for completely automated zones. From what I've read, installing that technology, which is not the same as the current Pitch/FX technology, in every stadium would be a huge and expensive undertaking. Additionally, the maintenance on the system would be a rather large and expensive job. I am sure we will eventually see it, but as others have said, it won't be for a while. IMO, what we'll see next is giving each team a couple of challenges on ball/strike calls.
  18. Thankfully, Farrell did not call for this bunt. He actually has a pretty good understanding of the misuse of sac bunting. As OB and Eck said last night, I'd be perfectly fine if I never saw another bunt from this team again.
  19. This game, and the whole series, has been emotionally draining. I don't think I would have survived another loss last night. Thank goodness we were able to pull that one out. IMO, losing the first game of the series set the tone for the remainder of it. I can't help but feel that if we had won the first game, we would have ended up winning 3 of 4 rather than losing 3 of 4.
  20. I think attending the ASG and all of the festivities would be more tiring than it is relaxing. Vacations, while fun, are often very exhausting. That said, Papi has to attend. He deserves to be there. The fans really want this last chance to celebrate his All Star greatness.
  21. But the umpires are not technically making errors on pitches in the true zone. That is what the accepted zone has become. That's why the error rate doesn't change.
  22. I remember your post from the early pages, and I agree with your idea. There are some umpires who are worse than 14%, which means there are some who are better. The ones that are not meeting a certain standard should be replaced.
  23. It would be a shame, to say the least. I want to win this year as much as anyone, but I really hope Dombrowski does not take a 'win now at any cost' mentality to the detriment of our future.
