  1. If that is actually what happened, then it does make sense that the Sox were targeted while other teams were not. In which case, Ben screwed up big time.
  2. Halos @ Red Sox 7pm @ Fenway Santiago 4-4/ 5.27 ERA Inconsistency has continued to plague Santiago this season. After back-to-back starts with six or more innings and one run allowed, he served up six runs to the Athletics on Sunday. He’s given up 17 homers, including back-to-back blasts on Sunday. Buchholz 3-8 / 5.90 ERA Buchholz’s biggest problem in his two starts since returning to the rotation is the first inning. He has settled down nicely in the middle frames. Lifetime against the Angels, the righty is 6-4 with a 4.83 ERA in 12 starts. This game has all the makings of a great pitcher's duel. Positive Clay mojo + July mojo = Red Sox will not be denied. Go Sox!!!

    The Cubs

    And your point is?
  5. I agree that Farrell should have pulled Wright a couple of batters earlier. To be fair though, during the coaching visit to the mound, Willis told Wright to stick with the knuckleball, not to throw the fastball. Vazquez and Wright decided to deviate from that plan. Wright throwing the fastball in that situation was far too predictable.
  6. To me, it looked like the ball was in fair territory at the moment the boy grabbed it, but it might have been the camera angle we were given. Either way, I'm not complaining, but I do think we caught a huge break there. BTW, this is an excellent example of how one run games are decided more by randomness/luck than they are by skill. Nava smoked that ball and it really didn't look like it would be high enough to bounce over the wall. It was a lucky bounce for us, bad bounce for the Angels that might have decided that game. There are numerous incidents like these that occur every game, though most of them are not as obvious.
  7. From what I saw, the strike zone was being called the same for both teams. One of the Jays announcers even noted after a Jays hitter got punched out on a ball out of the zone that that had been a strike all day for both teams. That doesn't excuse the bad calls, I know. On a more relevant issue for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the ejections of Encarnacion and Martin. To me, that's part of the game that will be sorely missed with an automated strike zone. Just like I miss the managers rants and subsequent ejections on blown calls on other plays. Scioscia might have been tossed in last night's game if instant replay were not around. How fun would that have been?
  8. What looked like was going to be a nice, relaxing win turned into one of the most stressful games this season. Thank goodness we held on. We need all the positive Buchholz mojo we can get for tonight's game. People have already declared defeat for tonight.
  9. I was very surprised that the call was not overturned. I think we caught a break there. Check that, I know we caught a break there. I think that it was fan interference. However, I suppose it would be rather difficult for the review team to overturn that call with conclusive evidence.
  10. My understanding is that while many teams sign package deals, the Sox were the only team that has done it to get around the penalty for exceeding the $300,000 spending limit for a player. Other teams have signed package deals in the sense of, Player A will sign with you, only if you're willing to take Player B as well. Kind of like a Mike Lowell throw in thing to get the deal done.
  11. The thing about line up changes is that they don't make as big difference as most people think they do. It's very likely that you end up doing more harm than good by taking batters out of their comfort zones.
  12. Quick, call the game!
  13. This was supposed to be a nice, relaxing game. So much for that. LOL
  14. Yeah they are.
  15. We still have the lead, and we're not done scoring. Barnes needs to stop the bleeding.
  16. Wright cannot pitch when it rains.
  17. Poo on rain delays. Looks pretty bad though.
  18. Congrats Papi! Woohoo!
  19. Four hits and only one run scored. Unacceptable.
  20. Mookie - facepalm
  21. Shaw - facepalm
  22. Welcome back Holt! Offensively and defensively!
  23. Dustin - facepalm
  24. There's nothing wrong with a good baseball nerd.
