  1. FTR, I feel that the owners have been less willing to compromise than the players, but I also feel that the owners have the right or are in the better position to be less willing to compromise. They are the owners, after all. Not good for baseball fans, but as I'm reminded repeatedly, baseball is a business.
  2. Unfortunately, that is likely to be the case. Pride and ego are affecting both sides willingness to give in.
  3. The Sox have the financial flexibility to exceed the tax limit this year and the next without getting hit by the harsh tax penalties. That allows Bloom to take on JBJ's salary without too much concern.
  4. Certainly much closer to career norms than the numbers he posted last year.
  5. I don't think they'll trade JBJ either.
  6. I was thinking signing another OFer, but there are other ways this could play out. Whatever the moves, I am sure that there is a priority on improving defense.
  7. Bloom does not have to like prospects. He has the payroll to spend. He likes prospects because it's the smart way to build long term sustainability.
  8. Perhaps, but keep in mind that we're not just talking about this upcoming season. Bloom always operates with the long term in mind. Maybe we have to add some more cost this year to replace the loss of value in Renfroe, but long term, we could very well end up saving. The Sox are in the financial position where they could exceed the luxury tax limit this year, if needed, and be able to reset again within the next 3 years.
  9. Based on what I've read, I like the prospects just fine.
  10. Come on Moon. Even if you don't like this move, you have to see some value in it.
  11. It's almost like I typed this post myself.
  12. JBJ will almost surely bounce back from his horrific offensive season, fueled by a .226 BABIP. He remains one of the best defensive OFers in MLB. I don't think Bloom intends for him to be an everyday OFer, but if he is, I'll be okay with that, assuming an offensive improvement to somewhere around career norms.
  13. I am giddy that Bloom is intent on strengthening the farm system, which in turn, strengthens the team's long term sustainability. Maybe the prospects taken individually don't amount to anything, but the strength of the farm system as a whole amounts to a whole lot.
  14. This move was about the prospects and the long term. It's a downgrade for this year, but an overall upgrade. Similar to the Benintendi trade, which I didn't like at all for the 2021 season, but it ended up working out just fine. And as I previously posted, I am pretty sure that we are not done with the outfield situation.
  15. I'm not sure what Bloom's plan is regarding JBJ, but I do think that there are subsequent moves coming regarding our outfield. That may or may not involve trading JBJ.
  16. I can see JBJ being a 4th OFer and a defensive replacement. I don't think Bloom intends for him to be our everyday CFer or RFer. I think he has something else in mind for the outfield.
  17. I think that's a matter of opinion. If you're hoping for the signing of a superstar free agent to a huge contract, then things have been less than exciting. If you're looking for the types of deals that will produce great value, both short term and long term, then it's been exciting for the Red Sox. Right now, there is just a lack of anything happening.
  18. Before the lockout, both sides made some concessions. Neither side has compromised enough. This pretty much pertains to all of the economic issues. It's kind of like when the Sox offered Mookie $300M and he countered with $420M. That's not a negotiation.
  19. Needless to say, I'm still a huge Bloom fan. I like what I've seen so far this offseason.
  20. I'm a little late to this topic, but welcome back JBJ! It will be interesting to see what subsequent OF moves are made once the lockout ends. I hate losing Renfroe, but this move was all about the 2 prospects.
  21. There will be a season and it will start on time. In the meantime, what a boring offseason.
  22. They are as unwilling to compromise as the owners are.
  23. Umm, no. Unless all you're concerned with is homeruns.
  24. The Francona influence is very strong throughout baseball.
  25. I don't disagree either. IMO, the Players Association is equally at fault.
