  1. Not having done anything about upgrading umps sounds like an MLB problem with an easy enough solution that doesn't require robo umps.
  2. As long as there are humans umpiring, there will be mistakes. I have no problem with that. They won't be perfect at calling balls and strikes (and FTR, the automated balls and strikes call system isn't perfect either), but some umpires are better than others. For one, they could start by letting the umpires with the best track records officiate the postseason. That wasn't the case this year and usually isn't the case. They could bring back those old huge chest protectors, as MVP mentioned before. That would give the umpires a better angle to call balls and strikes.
  3. It's not a matter of it being seamless and unnoticeable. It's a matter of baseball being officiated by technology rather than by people.
  4. It's coming, and we will adjust to it. Just like we adjusted to instant replay. That doesn't mean that we have to like it. Is it going to make baseball better? For me, I'm thinking that's a hard NO.
  5. You and I are on the same page here.
  6. The Astros did a good job of making adjustments after the first 3 games. They probably also had a little added incentive after the ERod incident. I'm not saying that's the reason why the Sox lost, but never give the opponent any added fire.
  7. I will be pulling for the 2022 Seattle Mariners in the AL West.
  8. Well, that was a disappointing loss, to state the obvious. I'm heartbroken. The offense disappeared at a very inopportune time. That said, the Red Sox have nothing to be ashamed of or regretful of. If we were told on Day 1 of the season that the Sox would be playing in the ALCS, I think any of us would have taken that ticket. They kept us entertained (and often frustrated) throughout the summer and into October. Some players have already mentioned how hungry they will be next season. The great news is that the Sox are in good shape for the upcoming years.
  9. Cora was a definite huge factor in how successful the Sox were. He is certainly a worthy candidate. I still think I'd give the edge to Cash. As much as I dislike the Rays, I can't deny their ability to play so well, even after losing starting pitcher after starting pitcher. It's not even a payroll thing for me. That said, I'd be thrilled if Cora won it. He moved up a notch in my already high respect factor after the playoffs.
  10. I don't have the time to look into possible trade scenarios and free agent signings like many of you do. I trust Bloom. I agree with his philosophy. That's enough for me.
  11. You are a bigger person than I. I can't pull for the Astros.
  12. I have heard several people say this. Personally, I'm looking forward to watching a stress free WS.
  13. There's some consolation in joining this club at a later date than the Yankees.
  14. Now it's down to hoping against the Astros. Actually, that's not entirely true. It's not just a matter of pulling against the Astros. I like the Braves.
  15. Pablo Sandoval - the gift that keeps on giving.
  16. The playoffs are not a complete crapshoot, so saying that there is a lot of crapshoot factor is probably more accurate. It's just easier to say the latter. The outcome of baseball games is so highly affected by randomness that even a 162 game season doesn't give you the depth of information about how good teams really are that the 82 game NBA season gives you. I know it worked out for us in 2018, and it worked out for the Dodgers in 2020, but this is why teams should never take a 'win at any cost' approach during the offseason or at the trade deadline. It's almost just as likely not to work out.
  17. Yes!!! As for the World Series, Go Braves!
  18. Woot! Don't let tonight be the Red Sox' last game of the series. I have a feeling we are going to Game 7.
  19. Nope, that wouldn't work for me. Not when I know the guy behind the plate is not making the call.
  20. There has been a suggestion to have only the obvious calls made by technology, and to let the umpires continue to make calls on borderline pitches. I'd be more inclined to accept that than having robot umps make all the calls.
  21. Exactly. I don't even like instant replay.
  22. Absolutely. They kept us entertained all summer.
  23. A thousand times NO to robot umps. That is all.
