I would not put a whole lot of stock into the zone used on Gameday. I've seen some pitches on there that don't look much like the pitch seen live. I don't disagree that there are some egregious errors made.

You are choosing to interpret my words to suit your argument. I do not enjoy missed calls. There is absolutely dehumanization of the game going on. If you replace humans with machines, that's can't be called anything else but dehumanization.

We're okay with players making errors more than 1% of the time. People are not meant to be perfect. FTR, robot umps are not 100% correct either.

Why you keep stating that those against robot umps get excited about a missed call is beyond me. I dislike missed calls as much as the next person does, especially when it goes against my team. Robot umps would dehumanize a large part of the game. Human emotion is a big part of the players' game. I enjoy pitchers and batters showing emotion when a call doesn't go their way. I also enjoy watching those players who don't seem to let it bother them as much as others. I enjoy watching the cat and mouse strategy between pitcher, batter, and yes, even the umpire during an at bat. With robot umps, the pitchers and batters will become someone robotic as well. That's where the enjoyment would be lost. I can still remember Youkilis shaking his head in the dugout over a call that happened in like the second inning of the game. That's good stuff.

There's a difference between the use of a machine to collect data after the fact versus the use of a machine during a live game.

I'm not sure if I agree with this thinking. You would hope that the calls that are being missed are the borderline calls, not the clear cut ones. Also, are 90% of the calls really clear cut? The problem, IMO, is not that an umpire is missing 10% of the calls. The issue is that MLB is allowing that umpire to continue to call games, especially postseason games. They could do better without the need for robo umps.

If the Astros win Game 6, I think they will win Game 7 as well. The Braves have to end it tonight. Of course, I thought the Astros would win the series in 5 games, so what do I know? Go Braves!

Robo umps will not speed up the game. If anything, they will slow the game down a bit.

According to one database called UmpScores, Diaz was ranked 64th out of 74 full time umpires, with a bad call rate of 9.6%. The major league average was 8.3%. The best bad call rate was 6.4%. As of October 20, of the 28 umpires who called a postseason game, half of them were rated as below average. You're probably right that they're not going to change that, but my point is that they could improve the umpiring without adding technology if they wanted to.

I imagine that it's pretty bad being a Red Sox fan living in Houston. I do think that the Astros have something to prove. At the same time, it's my opinion that probably every team was stealing signs illegally to some degree or another. The Astros were more blatant with their technique, they got caught, and they were made the example. I don't blame fans of other teams for booing them though.

Again, that's a problem with MLB and with the umpires having too much power. If they have so much power, I'm surprised that they are 'allowing' themselves to be 'replaced' by technology. To me, it sounds more like someone just doesn't want to deal with holding umpires to a certain level of accountability.
