  1. I don't have Apple+ and won't be able to watch the game. Typically, this really ticks me off, but at the moment, I'm okay with being unable to watch. I don't need this kind of stress in my life. LOL That said, this really feels like a reverse mojo kind of game. Battle of the scuffling teams.
  2. Our bullpen shares the blame for these losses, but not only have they carried a heavy load because of our starters' inability to go deep into games, they have also pitched a lot of high stress innings because of our offenses' inability to score runs. I would venture to say that if our starters and offense did a better job, our bullpen would also do a better job.
  3. I applaud Refsnyder for taking on a leadership role. I also applaud him for almost always having a professional at bat, even though his playing time is limited. With so many young players on our team, we need guys like Refsnyder. I understand that not everyone has the makeup to be a vocal leader. However, one can be a strong leader by example without necessarily having to be vocal. Devers, I'm looking at you.
  4. Probably not, only because there are less defensive chances for a defender than there are offensive chances for a hitter. There are also indirect benefits of great defense, though, namely for the pitching staff.
  5. I agree with you about Casas and about letting Anthony play 1B for the remainder of this year. I am pretty sure Breslow has already nixed the Anthony at 1B idea, though. Devers improvement with 3B defense, or lack thereof, has been a true disappointment. There were times when he'd make a Gold Glove type play, then he'd turn around a boot a ball hit right to him. I don't know what Breslow has in store for the remainder of this season. I'm not ready to call it quits yet.
  6. It's not just a matter of Devers over Bregman.
  7. Or, potentially strengthening 2nd base defense and strengthening our overall offense.
  8. I, for one, wait with bated breath. I always enjoy your posts, Bell. 😊
  9. No doubt. Extreme frustration. The good news is, we will miss Sale in this series against the Braves. The bad news is, it probably won't matter.
  10. Is a run saved not as valuable as a run scored?
  11. Fair point, it is an odd position for me to take. However, my opinion is not based solely on 3B defense. Such decisions are not made in a vacuum. I'm not benching Bregman, I'm putting him at 2B. Campbell's defense there has not exactly been stellar.
  12. I kind of think the FO felt like they had to start one of the kids, probably for that reason. Plus, he's a right-handed bat.
  13. In terms of defense at 3B, no doubt Bregman should be there over Devers. In terms of overall alignment and production, it's not as clear cut that the 3B/2B/DH alignment of Bregman/Campbell/Devers is better than the alignment of Devers/Bregman/Yoshida. I agree Devers should have been taking reps at 1B. I don't agree that he should have been our Opening Day first baseman when we had Casas there.
  14. I know Bregman is a much better fielder than Devers is. I still think they should have left Devers at 3B. It seems the Red Sox were really intent on having Campbell on the roster.
  15. The fact that Devers spoke to the media on both occasions, saying things that he probably shouldn't have said, shows that there was a lack of communication. And knowing that the Red Sox lacked depth at 1B, I don't know why Devers hadn't been taking reps there all along.
  16. It's hard not to feel like the season is over. I understand that. I have very little confidence in this team right now. That said, if the positions of the Red Sox and the Yankees were reversed, would you feel like the Yankees had no chance of coming back to make the playoffs?
  17. To answer the question of the opening post, no. I would not move Rafaela to the infield to make room for Anthony. I value Rafaela's defense in CF too much to move him. That said, I feel like this move is very close to being made.
  18. As I've posted many times, the offense has been 10 times more frustrating to me than our pitching. Especially their inability to advance runners when needed.
  19. Because that's what you do as a team player and a leader. I agree wholeheartedly that the Red Sox jerked him around this spring, but he still needs to be a team player for his teammates. Bregman should have been put at 2B to start with, leaving Devers at 3B.
  20. Maybe it's not, but some of the losses can be chalked up to the randomness of 1-run losses and extra-inning losses. There's been some bad luck sprinkled in with the mediocrity.
  21. If what we've heard is correct, when Devers signed his extension, he was assured (by Bloom?) that he would not be moved off of 3B for at least 3 years. I can understand Devers being upset by then being told that he would be the permanent DH. That doesn't excuse his initial unwillingness to be the DH or his later unwillingness to play 1B, but the FO failed in communicating their plan to Devers.
  22. I agree. I don't know where the breakdown is, but I agree there is a breakdown in communication happening somewhere. I'm wondering if Breslow and Cora are butting heads over team philosophies and roster construction. Yet, Breslow was the guy who extended Cora so you would think they are on the same page.
  23. This team has worn me down. I can't even defend them anymore. 😞 Somebody, dig me out of this black hole!
