Actually, I have indeed acknowledge Verdugo (that jewel in the Betts trade) had charges dropped. As has Bauer and other fan favorites. And I'm not sure I have ever accused whatsisname of steroid abuse (not that I would give a crap about that anyway). I just don't like the fact that he is average and injured. I agree, though, I'm not big on guys arrested for masturbating in public. But to each his own.

What difference would that make? The only real loss would be the nightly radio broadcast, which has been part of my life for maybe 70 years.

Meanwhile, LAD's attendance last year topped Boston by 1.2 million. Average LA ticket price: 209 vs. Boston 170. (The only fig. that surprises me is the ave ticket price in LA; when I used to go, ticket price was essentially negligible). Imagine what that gap is going to look like this year, w/ Ohtani and Yamamoto.

That desire must not have been stronger than an offer at market value, since he never did become a free agent. But I think we all pretty much agree that the reasons/excuses don't matter as much as the simple fact that the RS totally f*cked it up.

No. I think they should have offered him market value, i.e., as much or more than other teams did.

But then, a cynic might point out that the "mess" Bloom was handed included the best and one of the most popular players in the league, whom he promptly got rid of. There's that.

Aside from the assault in the outfield, the mediocre skill-set, his poor record when he was here before, you mean? Somehow, he doesn't strike me as "our" Ohtani, but maybe paired with (what's the dude's name? Hymen?), we now have a core to build around.

Yeah, without poor Bob, they wouldn't have had a sniff at that WS. I recall watching the hideous game 7 (none of us knowing that Oil Can had drunk himself into oblivion--or so I hear--and was unavailable), and my friend saying as the string of RS relievers threw it away -- 'Why not Bob Stanley, facrisake!' Btw, is that true about Oil Can? or is that just another one of the stories he so happily made up?
