  1. Maybe that part about comparing the recent histories of various clubs? And of course, I'll have the radio droning in the background like all NEnglanders this summer. But LAD is a far better organization with a far better product and anyone who denies that is delusional. But there's hope: LAD had to recover from the disastrous ownership of the McCourts (among the worst owners in pro-sports,--in a very very crowded field) just as the LAClippers had to recover from Donald Sterling. So there is hope (once or if the team is sold).
  2. If all you care about is the past, why not become a Yankees fan?
  3. Because they have better players and play better baseball than the RS? That's why I go. If you don't care about watching good baseball, then you might as well stick with fantasy sports.
  4. Yeah, the Dodgers suck. I mean who wants to go to Chavez Ravine to see Mookie or Ohtani or Yamamoto when they can go to Fenway and see videos of past RS greats?
  5. Another thing that discourages me is that every other team in the division has an easier schedule than the RS.
  6. Why are all positive things about this team expressed in the subjunctive?
  7. Sounds like this came straight from the FO.
  8. Seems to me they've done some things to make super-fans pore over their spread sheets, but absolutely nothing to make the average fan (the one who puts the pennies in the seats, as Steinbrenner used to say) want to bother going to a game or even checking the box scores.
  9. Exactly what baby steps forward have the RS taken in the last two years?
  10. Only bargains? As opposed to what they've been doing this year?
  11. A very very depressing read. But a good one for anyone who believes sports owners give a crap about their customers or their communities.
  12. So we are now arguing about whether a 78-84 team can be as good as an 81-81 team? Isn't that kinda like arguing for Verdugo's taking a pitch for a ball that Betts might have fouled off for a strike? or the classic argument for JBJ's strikeouts being more valuable than hitting into double-plays?
  13. Again, in court, you can only be found guilty or not guilty. You cannot be found 'innocent'. Being found not guilty means only that: you were found not guilty. Furthermore, this is the entertainment business promoting a kids game. You want your kid running around in a Bauer uniform? an OJ uniform? Maybe a Franco uniform (after all, he hasn't been found guilty of anything either).
  14. Ah yes. Remember the good ole days? When we got to discuss the virtues of signing Ohtani, Yamamoto, Boggaerts, Betts ... and now we have ... Moore? Hey wasn't he the guy who lost the title to Foreman? I didn't even know he played baseball.
  15. as a matter of law, you cannot be proven 'innnocent'. Charges were dropped. I don't care what he does in the sack with a hooker; as a sports fan, I'm more concerned with crap like throwing the ball into the stands as Tito is coming out for it.
  16. Longing for 84 wins! That is truly the sign if not the definition of mediocrity. Looks like the FO has sold their new product.
  17. Then why aren't you listing them if they are so easy to find?
  18. Verdugo, McGuire, Pham, ... But I guess you're still hoping for Franco.
  19. Yup. All the RS need is for each player to produce what players making twice as much do. No other team is as uniquely poised for success.
  20. Have to say, it's a lot more interesting listening to discussions of editing posts on iPhones than to what the FO is doing.
  21. exactly
  22. C'mon, John. You KNOW Franco's going to be available at a HUGE discount.
  23. It's not Henry's 660 million investment he doesn't care about. It's his customers. He apparently has convinced himself that they are morally obliged to throw money at him even for a mediocre product. What a lot of us life-long customers want is simple: we want him to improve the product. We don't (or I don't) give a rat's behind how much money he makes or loses.
  24. https://www.audacy.com/weei/sports/red-sox/kennedy-liar-if-you-say-red-sox-ownership-isnt-committed?fbclid=IwAR19-DSmNwMvSzeIv8bwggLCwS-YaDaaIeUanwt2UaBl4Z1fOiu8gWCpHfI I think Kennedy needs to learn the difference between "you're a liar" and "you are not correct." In this situation, only one of the parties can be guilty of lying.
  25. Because there was no need. Check the attendance figures from the late 70s, early 80s. Dropped more than a half-million, even below league average, until 1986.
