    We've been through this before, but for whatever reason, Vazquez has much better numbers with the bullpen, and as a result his overall CERA is lower than Plawecki's. Vazquez's overall CERA is 4.18. And as we have established, our pitching ERA is inflated by bad defense.

    I'm much different there. For me the 4 rings feel like a personal achievement, or at least a vindication of my fandom, after what I went through from 1969 to 2003.

    Please, no more CERA, it's maddening. Vazquez plays more than Plawecki, it seems pretty obvious Bloom and Cora value him more.

    Kudos to the Rays for their system, which has done an amazing job turning low payrolls into wins. But let's also not forget it's the Red Sox who have the 4 rings since 2004. Or that Bloom is a Friedman protégé.

    And Rivera's postseason record, despite the famous blown saves, is mind-boggling.

    I just realized that Rivera is the flip side of Rick Porcello, in that his fWAR is about 50% lower than his bWAR. Rivera's fWAR is more than double Nen's, so the volume is a big factor. I do tend to agree that being on those Yankee teams made Rivera seem even better than he was. As for the unanimous vote thing, I've always thought the attention paid to that, in general, is stupid.

    Agreed. They were 33-27 in 2020. Their big offseason moves were Kluber and Taillon replacing Tanaka and Happ. They have not had any significant influx of young talent this year. There's nothing that says there's a great team hidden in there. But a suitable new GM and manager could certainly put them on the right track.

    E-Rod has pitched well against the Yankees this year, and in his career.

    Bogaerts and Bichette are 4-5 win players. They are not problems.

    I don't think Eck was the first to be called a closer, but I may be wrong on that.

    I think everybody likes guys that can go two plus innings. The obvious issue is that he won't be available the next game or two. The standard one-inning closer can pitch 3 games in a row sometimes. There's always a trade-off.

    You have to put the blame on Cashman. He has had total free rein with this team a long time now. And of course Boone is his guy.

    Robles is on a great run now.

    Well, we wouldn't like it NOW, obviously. The only point is that it's not a gift from MLB.
