Even assuming that the whole purpose of trading for Schwarber was to replace Dalbec, how could Schwarber be a guaranteed upgrade defensively? He was a complete unknown quantity at the position.

I don't really get your Dalbec argument. Even if Dalbec's bat stayed cold and he was replaced by Schwarber, the complaint is that Schwarber is not a first baseman, so he wasn't a defensive upgrade over Dalbec, no matter how bad Dalbec was doing at first. So Chaim had a bad defensive team and made it worse. Now whether he could have done anything differently is debatable. But the complaints about pieces not fitting and terrible defense are valid, I think.

Anything can happen, but when you look at run differential, the Jays are legit. They have a better differential than the Rays now. The Yankees differential, OTOH, is lower than ours.

The Rays are 18-1 vs. Baltimore with a +79 run differential. Houston definitely has the tougher schedule, and their run differential is about the same as the Rays.

So someone might cough up a fair chunk for Syndergaard. But there would have to be a 'are you healthy' discount applied. So Syndergaard might be more inclined to take a 1-2 year deal and hope to increase his value.

That in itself isn't a clincher, but when you add the records vs. the AL Central being almost equal, you're on pretty solid ground.

Right. Trades generally fall into certain specific and logical categories. -Trading from an area of surplus for an area of need. -Trading talent with higher present value and higher salary, in return for talent with lower salary and higher future value.

Makes perfect sense. But 'the right return' is often a matter of widely varying opinions, with a whole pile of risk involved. If Chaim Bloom is so good that he can win every trade, in theory he should trade everyone this offseason. And then trade the guys he traded for. You see where I'm going with this.
