  1. Thank God Ohtani didn't sign with the Yankees. One shudders to think of the numbers he would post for them.
  2. I mean Michigan J. Frog of One Froggy Evening, probably the greatest cartoon ever made.
  3. So in the last few weeks we've had Verdugo on paternity leave, Renfroe on bereavement leave and Kike and Arroyo out with COVID.
  4. He's in the Singing Frog Club, with Cordero and Munoz.
  5. Chafin and Tepera definitely look like misses.
  6. It appears that the change is there are no more trades after July. In the past we saw some big trades like the Red Sox-Dodgers trade in 2012. Now it's just outright releases that can be claimed?
  7. And one more thing: stay the heck away from the Talksox game thread.
  8. I checked it out. They didn't ignore it. The only issue is that they are showing 1.5 years of control left - suggesting the values are only updated every half-season.
  9. I'm guessing that trade value for Bogey does not take his opt-out into account.
  10. Spider Tack enforcement started June 21, and his ERA was still 0.47 on August 1, so it may be something else.
  11. Kimbrel has gone from a 0.49 ERA with the Cubs to a 7.15 ERA with the White Sox!
  12. If Cora used Whitlock as much as fans would like, Garrett would be waiting for his second Tommy John surgery right now. Cora is managing the pitching as best he can with what he's got.
  13. And I agree that Henry pulled the plug on DD at the right time, and I'm glad he was replaced by Bloom.
  14. The only question is whether there was really a 'cliff', when the only truly bad season was 60 games long.
  15. His is the funniest, but mine is the actual answer.
  16. JD had a 9 game slump and some of the Talksox intelligentsia thought he should be benched for multiple games as a result. Some of us, including moon and myself, disagreed.
  17. I know exactly why he used Perez there. The second and third Cleveland batters due up were LH hitters and Perez has good numbers against LH hitters.
  18. I predicted 25-12 in their last 37, in my disappointingly ignored poll thread (except for you and Kimmi). So I need 22-12 to be right.
  19. Yeah, the thing is, I assume Xander wouldn't have signed that deal without the opt-out. He got security plus flexibility. So it's all academic. But to play with the hypothetical, I'm not sure how big the return would be, because it would be a large chunk of money assumed by the acquiring team. Maybe there are some reasonable comps?
  20. There's no such thing as 'peaking too early'.
  21. Cora could use the 'shoot till you miss' rule with closers. You have the job until you blow a save. Then it's next guy up.
  22. But many of us feared he was in decline after 2020 as well. There was a poster on the other site, Spaceman Eephus, who used to refer to hitting and pitching as the 'dark arts' or words to that effect. I thought that was perfect, because it captured that what makes guys go on good streaks or bad ones is often a complete mystery. No one knows how JD will do the rest of the way.
  23. Sorry, I missed the hypothetical part.
  24. Whatever the standard calculation is.
