  1. Not at all. The metrics say the best hitter should be in the 2 spot, that's all.
  2. But they just...ah, never mind.
  3. It's not like they're famous stretches in Red Sox history or anything like that.
  4. You and notin are full-fledged GOOBERS on this one. The math was fine.
  5. It's all very weird for sure. The only comparison I can think of is 2 university sports teams that play each other every year and one team always beats the other. It almost becomes a 'tradition' and the losers just expect to lose again.
  6. And Duran's early defensive grades are not very impressive - vastly worse than Kike's were in CF. A bit of a cluster, isn't it?
  7. And our big deadline move, getting Schwarber, made the defense worse by putting JD in the outfield. Yikes!
  8. Now for the really weird but good part: 1946-1949+29=1975-1978 1975-1978+29=2004-2007
  9. The Rays are unique. No one is doing what they are doing. They must have the best analytics and coaching team, hands down.
  10. The 1946-1949 Red Sox were eerily similar to the 1975-1978 Red Sox. 1946-lost WS in 7 1947-won 83 games, finished 3rd 1948-lost one game playoff to Cleveland 1949-lost last 2 games to Yankees to finish 1 game behind them 1975-lost WS in 7 1976-won 83 games, finished 3rd 1977-finished T2nd, 2.5 games behind Yankees 1978-lost one game playoff to Yankees
  11. I have some good news for you, then. They didn't sweep us in Texas. They won 3 out of 4.
  12. The studies have been done, I have no doubt about that. For the average fan it might be more instructive to look at the hot and cold streaks of a hitter. If a guy goes 4 for 4 one day, what do we expect him to do the next day? We know it's extremely unlikely he goes 4 for 4 again. If you look at the game logs of a hitter you'll see the numbers go up and down like a yo-yo. So take that and expand it to a whole team and it's going to be 9 yo-yos.
  13. If and when Chaim Bloom does sign someone to a big contract, there's a risk some of that will end up dead money too. They don't call them guaranteed contracts for nothing. The Pedroia dead money was just bad luck. It's a cost of doing business for rich teams, IMHO
  14. 2021 dead money: Price 16 mill Pedroia 13.75 mill We've had a lot of dead money since the 2014-15 offseason with the Pablo/Hanley/Rusney troika of signings.
  15. "Tend to" stay in motion - Newton was just another waffler.
  16. They do spend, and I'm not complaining about JH, never have. But you also have to consider that a lot of the teams we outspend couldn't match us in spending if they wanted to, because they don't have the revenues.
  17. The Yankees seem to have a fair amount of momentum right now. I fear it's going to continue.
  18. Yes, but Denny also said we'd have no trouble sweeping the Rangers. And now we're 1 more game behind the Yanks.
  19. Jax making nonsensical statements.
