    Bogaerts is a better defender than Devers. FanGraphs has him at +39.8 RAR for his career. Devers is at -10.3. But in both cases I look at total WAR, myself. Both of them are such good hitters that they much more than compensate for their defense.

    I would guess that the projections are well below the player's potential, but in order to be realistic they have to factor in the risks of injury and underperformance.

    Heaney is projected to have a 1.9 fWAR in 2022. His numbers do suggest he's not as much of a bum as he looked with the Yankees last year.

    Right. Now if he had a positive fWAR, we could extrapolate it into a better number. But with a negative fWAR, it only gets worse...

    The fact that Brasier had a -0.1 fWAR (4.84 FIP) in 2021 didn't help.

    If they sign Schwarber, they would pretty much have to pay some luxury tax this year. They could then conceivably get back under in 2023, when JD and Price come off the books. But we don't even know what the tax thresholds and rates will be yet.

    Up until last year with Stroman and Gausman, players accepting QO's were pretty rare. I don't think E-Rod will accept.

    Bloom has said he envisions Whitlock as a starter, so it's going to be very interesting to see how they handle him next year.

    You keep saying it would be crazy to pay E-Rod 18 million, and it's a 10 million raise, after a bad year et cetera. People have tried to explain the logic behind it. That E-Rod's peripherals were better than his ERA. That comparable starters like Stroman are expected to get 90 million deals and so on. But you just keep beating the dead horse. You asked earlier about whether we could spend the 18 mill better, and I said yes, that is the right question.
