  1. We wouldn't even be talking about this if it wasn't for the super-high-res-stop-action shots of guys whose shoe separates from the bag by a millimeter for a nanosecond.
  2. The 100% team-friendly contract is pretty rare. Bogaerts's contract was team-friendly in terms of the total dollar value, but the opt-out after 3 years was player-friendly.
  3. The idea that if the foot is still over the bag the guy is safe makes sense to me.
  4. The arb raises we have seen in recent years negate the '6 years of cheap control' premise. Here's Renfroe, who was a good deal in 2021, suddenly looking like a questionable investment for 2022 and maybe even a non-tender candidate. Which raises the question of where the scale of arb salaries come from. Is it in the CBA?
  5. What I would say is that JD proved again in 2021 that he's a pretty consistent .900 OPS guy. The only numbers working against him are the ones on his birth certificate.
  6. Yes, that was Phase 2 of the Crapshoot Enhancement Program.
  7. I do remember there was some chatter here about signing him.
  8. The crapshoot factor was multiplied when they expanded to 3 divisions in each league.
  9. I still can't ever say anything bad about Joe.
  10. Ain't that the ugly truth.
  11. Eddie Rosario = NLCS MVP Jorge Soler = World Series MVP Yes, this postseason was good times for the Crapshoot Believers.
  12. If they played in the NLW they would have been dead meat, and sellers at the deadline. The Fickle Finger of Fate.
  13. She seems to be saying she doesn't like the missed calls per se, but enjoys the players' reactions to them. But it does seem like a mixed message.
  14. And we're not saying the whole 10% comes from borderline calls. A lot of the missed calls are no-doubters. If you follow games on Gameday you will see pitches called strikes where the whole ball is outside the zone with "daylight" in between. Like the one Diaz called on JD in Game 4.
  15. All due respect to the Braves for winning it all, but let's not forget how much they benefited from playing in the pitiful NL East. The Braves won 88 games. 4 teams in the AL East won more games than that.
  16. Something odd: In the last 2 postseasons, the Braves have been in 3 7-game series in which they led 3-1, but lost Game 5. They ended up winning one and losing one of the previous two. How it will turn out this time?
  17. I propose we stipulate as a stone cold fact that everyone here would trade anyone, if the return is better. That way it doesn't ever need to be said again.
  18. It's 2021. Time's up. Hoping they might actually fix an entrenched, corrupt process isn't good enough. Those kind of hopes seldom pan out.
  19. You mis-read that, I think, Kimmi. Dewey and I are saying "a lot" of the 90% called right are clear cut. If you take out the clear cut ones the error rate might be 20% or more.
  20. I'm hoping for the Braves, but the tomahawk chop is incredibly embarrassing. Chiefs fans were doing it last night too. Just brutal.
  21. Agree with that too. But there seems to be a notion out there that the postseason assignments have something to do with merit, with scores earned during the season, and the reality is it's not so.
  22. And I agree. I'm just thinking for anyone who's on the fence about it, the dysfunctional process should be the clincher.
  23. Like I say, the process is obviously corrupt.
