    Urquidy has a projected 2022 fWAR of 1.5. Not very exciting. His peripherals, especially FIP, don't look that good. There are reasons he's only equal value.

    And Cole's deal looks a little shaky right now. Which raises the question, what are the biggest money deals that have actually turned out as wins for the team? Max Scherzer 210 million (with deferrals) Derek Jeter 189 million Manny Ramirez 160 million

    Good question. When it's equal value, picking which is better is like trying to beat the Vegas NFL point spreads...

    One could say that, but Verdugo's price goes up too, so I don't think it's quite that simple. And it tends to diminish the loss of Hall of Fame talent.

    Yes, but as I've said, I don't think Bogaerts would bring back talent resembling Verdugo. I think we actually got more than equal value with Verdugo. If you get back truly equal value, by definition you haven't gained a thing.

    He's a good golfer though. And his gal pal is, or was, Tiger Woods's niece Cheyenne. And she is smokin'.

    And even if you do get equal value, it's a sideways move, nothing gained. And you lose the draft pick. So what's the point?

    It's not just the "measly draft pick". It's the draft pick plus one year of Bogaerts. We're a contending team, so we don't want to make ourselves worse just for the sake of getting more than the draft pick.

    You're talking about a limited field of teams to trade with. $20 mill is a chunk of change for a rental. If it wasn't for the Dodgers we might not have been able to trade Betts.

    BTW, I'm pretty sure JD just set the all-time pro sports record for most opt-outs declined in a single contract.

    It would, but how much talent do you think you'd get back trading him? He's a 4-5 win player with an AAV of 20 million. What does BTV say about it?

    Plus, the team had shown they didn't want to pay him 400 million.

    One difference I see with Mookie is that, supposedly, a prime motivator for trading Mookie was to get under the tax threshold and re-set. They're not really in that situation right now. Also, we look better set to contend going into 2022 than the team did going into 2020. To justify trading Bogaerts you would have to get something of serious value in return. But I'm not sure teams will be as eager to give up talent for Bogaerts, a 4-5 win player, as the Dodgers were for Mookie, an 8-10 win player.

    Bloom is the guy who makes the personnel moves, so it seems to make sense he'd be discussed a lot. Just as DD was discussed a lot when he was the guy. And he still is discussed a lot. He gets criticized a lot but he also gets supported a lot.

    I agree. Eovaldi's contract was based more on recency and upside. Fortunately, DD's upside bet has largely been vindicated.

    But we'd also have to consider how much of the 2022 payroll cost can be attributed to DD.
