  1. Manfred takes his orders from the owners, right?
  2. I don't mean the players, I mean the union reps, the negotiators. I mean Tony.
  3. Both sides suck. What are they doing right now? Watching the days go by is what. They won't do anything until actual damage to the game and the fans has been done.
  4. Hard to be certain, but it sure looks like the tanking was a big factor.
  5. On the other hand, the 2016 Cubs and the 2017 Astros showed how tanking can pay off in a championship a few years later.
  6. No question. It just seems like some of the 'underpinnings' of the game's popularity are a little shaky. We keep hearing about how young people find the game boring. We even hear a lot of the older folks saying they don't like watching the games as much anymore. You'd think at some point that's going to show up in the bottom line. That's probably got a lot to do with why baseball has partnered up so enthusiastically with the gambling business.
  7. That's been the case up till now. Will it stay like this forever?
  8. I suppose a highly motivated accountant (not me) could take a stab based on ticket prices, attendance, TV revenues etc.
  9. Plus most prospects don't make it. But some do. And thereby lies a tale, as Shakespeare put it. I've seen Bloom make enough good calls to think he is a decent talent evaluator. Pivetta, Whitlock, Kike, Renfroe...all these guys outperformed the initial expectations, which were pretty darn low...
  10. I don't think it's that complicated. Bloom sees more potential in these prospects than their ratings would indicate.
  11. Yes, but what Bloom actually paid for was the two prospects that came along with Bradley. It's a relatively inexpensive way to get decent prospects.
  12. OK, now you've hurt me.
  13. Yes, but frankly I'd be surprised if anyone gives him 2 years.
  14. Sanchez has dirt on Boone. Boone has dirt on Cash. Cash has dirt on Hal. It all makes sense why these guys are still around LOL
  15. He'll probably get $6-7 mill from someone. $6-7 mill is pretty much the going price for semi-has beens with an expected 1 WAR, I think.
  16. Probably about 3.4 times higher. (7/2.1)
  17. We beat Tampa when it mattered, and their opinion of Wacha and Hill doesn't concern me.
  18. I know, but usually I can figure out what got mis-spelled. Not this time.
  19. He does the best foot?
  20. Both owners and players are terrible negotiators. I'm an equal opportunity abuser.
  21. The fun of baseball has been cancelled for a while, that's for sure...
