    This could certainly be debated. The Rays ended up winning 100, so it appears Bloom correctly assessed our chances of passing them.

    It's all baked into* WAR, which is why WAR is about the only reliable measurement. * don't especially care for the phrase, but have to use it sometimes LOL

    The 2021 Red Sox were incredibly fortunate to make it as far as they did. They were an 88 win team based on Pythagorean record. You could argue that they had no right even being in the playoffs after how they performed in games 154-159. Cora did a terrific job keeping them going after that.

    True, but on the flip side, Sox fans are still beeching about Price's contract and the continued payroll impact.

    I can't get over the Rangers spending $500 mill on Seager and Semien. $500 mill = 2 David Price contracts plus a Nathan Eovaldi contract.

    But you also said he IS a great player and SHOULD have gotten the money. I don't know if Bloom wants to give a megadeal to anyone. And who knows, maybe he's right. $325 million to Corey Seager is beyond absurd. I'm just rambling now...

    Mookie's down year is 2021 now. 3.9 fWAR. 40 games missed. Slight negative ratings in baserunning and fielding, likely due to the assorted injuries. Even Mookie could start tailing off. It's those nagging little injuries like he had in 2021 that could do it.

    Well, we did get a decent late inning reliever on a 1 year contract at approximate market price, so we didn't pay a lot for German.

    The Yankees probably fixed it so there would be no major league Rule 5 draft this year.

    Bloom has done some spending this offseason, just not any that stirred a lot of excitement. Paxton, Wacha and Hill have a total AAV of about $25 mill. Plus the exercise of Vaz's option.

    Me either. Especially since we have a player in house, Devers, who they should be signing to one.

    So far his bigger additions have been relatively small.

    Sol the net negative is what, about $5 million? Considering the variability of the measurements used, you might as well call it a wash.

    The overall score on WAR yielded per dollar cost on those names would be very good, I think.
