Well, he did sign 3 guys-Paxton, Wacha and Hill. Plus exercising Vaz's option, plus the extra salary for JBJ. Plus arb raises. It all adds up. We'll be close to the tax threshold one way or another.

You've been complaining loudly about the trade ever since it was made. But it's the people defending the trade you say are getting "worked up". Funny how that works.

Well, Red, even if you look at it as Renfroe for Bradley, we traded a .237 career hitter for a .230 career hitter who plays better defense. And the money isn't that much different. So what are you all worked up about?

Personally I think Price was a pretty small part of the Betts trade. It was a convenient opportunity to get someone to take on half of Price's salary. But I'm pretty sure if the Dodgers said no to it, the trade would have proceeded with little change to what we got back. As for Bradley, I think Bloom feels he still has positive value. His defense should be a plus if nothing else.

I'm not riled up. I just think it's nutty. And I'm not a big prospect lover myself. But I know that they have a lot of potential value. Look at what we got for the prospects Dombrowski traded. That was only a few years ago.

Sorry folks, but we do not need scheduled doubleheaders. There's always going to be a bunch of unscheduled DH's for rainouts anyway. And to be honest, I don't think anyone gets that excited about those DH's. If the Red Sox play a DH against the Yankees you're talking about 9 hours out of your day, and a lot of anxiety about the number of pitchers we're going through etc.

You can't just look at the exchange of talent though. If that's you all you look at, then sure, you're not going to win a trade of Mookie Betts.

No offense, but I trust Bloom's evaluation of prospects a lot more than yours.

Chalk it up to the peculiar compensation structure of MLB. Renfroe made 3.1 mill in 2021 but is projected to make 7.6 mill in 2022. That's a 145% increase the team has no control over. And a similar raise can probably be expected for 2023.

But you know, it's what, about $20 million at risk? To me that's still a pretty small risk compared to some we've seen.

At this stage of the game it's a matter of isolating the biggest differences in their positions and negotiating compromises. These people seem to be lousy negotiators.

The players have agreed to tiny increases in the tax thresholds the last couple of CBA's.

Bowden also suggests the players feel like they lost the last 2 negotiations and determined to win this one. Which does sound credible...

I think Bowden has a great proposal on the luxury tax - say yes to the stiffer penalties, but bump the threshold up to 240 million. As notin might say, even Dombrowski should be able to put together a good team for 239 million.
