  1. Chapman continues to be a concern.
  2. I have to agree for the most part. I also get notin's argument that the pitching the 8th inning can sometimes be harder, if the heart of the order is up. But there's something about having a guy like Kimbrel or Papelbon or Rivera pitching the 9th every time you have the lead. It's a sort of comfortable feeling. They will occasionally blow games but they usually bounce right back. It's something you can count on. As for the pressure of pitching the 9th, I do think it's different. To me it's like a field goal kicker who has a chance to win or lose the game on the last play from say 35 or 40 yards. It's a high-percentage play for them. But the thing is, the whole game is on them, and everyone is watching them, maybe many millions of people. Are you Adam Vinatieri, or Scott Norwood? Keith Foulke, or Calvin Schiraldi? Your career is going to be defined by this moment, and possibly ruined by this moment.
  3. Danish put up a pair of scoreless innings in yesterday's game, in a low-leverage situation that turned out to be important.
  4. Which would move Schreiber to the top of the righty depth chart, unless they move Houck to the pen.
  5. Yeah, it's a rather arbitrary rule, but if the ball stays in the park, they only count one run, but if it leaves the park it's like any other home run.
  6. Sorry harmony. Not sorry we swept, but you're a good baseball fan and deserve some reward for it.
  7. The thing is you're all over the place. You say there's nothing wrong with people liking analytics and then you call them nerds and say the analytics are only good if they're on toilet paper.
  8. You've said that you don't care about OPS.
  9. No, you said more. You said "more HR, and RBI is good enough for me." It's the "good enough for me" part that has caused the arguments.
  10. Players always get contracts based on what they've done. That's just how it works.
  11. Pretty hard to even understand what you're saying here.
  12. He has averaged 8.3 bWAR per 162 games. Trout is at 9.6. I don't think there's anyone else higher than 8.3, but I could be wrong. Who do you think might be higher?
  13. Don't know what else to say then.
  14. Maybe because most people consider him the second best player in the game and a sure Hall of Famer?
  15. Do you think Betts got his contract based on RBI's? He only had 80 in 2018 and 80 in 2019.
  16. Betts missed 40 games last year with an assortment of injuries. He still had 23 HR's and 29 doubles and an .854 OPS. He looks right back on form this year.
  17. Looking at Davis's numbers, he had a great run from ages 27-30, and then completely lost it.
  18. You can't win against Ribbiemetrics.
  19. In reality, not one team in baseball goes as "all in to win" as they possibly could. Not even the Dodgers. They let Seager and Jansen go. Wouldn't they be an even better team with those two? Of course they would.
  20. All well and good, but you don't need metrics to see that Betts takes a lot more walks than Renfroe and has vastly more speed and baserunning skills, or that he is a vastly superior fielder.
  21. Right. Kike is basically an average hitter and excellent fielder.
  22. And reality check says if both happen, we'll be paying 3 infielders a total of $75 mill a year, with one of them out of position. Does that make sense?
  23. I'll play - 8 * $25 offered, 10 * $30 asked.
  24. I don't think the math is quite that simple though. If it was I can't see anyone not agreeing with you.
  25. A reasonable guess on Devers would be $200 mill vs. $300 mill.
