  1. They may indeed have turned a corner when AC shaved.
  2. Same, I'd go as high as 4 years @ $23-24 mill.
  3. Interesting reasoning, but I can't help disagreeing - are you surprised? I think not going to the max for Betts was an ownership decision. If you recall, Dombrowski failed to keep Scherzer in Detroit. Offered 6/$144, Max turned it down, DD wouldn't go higher. Or again, maybe his boss wouldn't go higher.
  4. I don't know, but again it's about alternatives. You said trades were better. Our last big trade for a pitcher was Sale. For 3 years we gave up Kopech and Moncada, who we paid $61 million to acquire. And I actually misspoke earlier when I said Sale's health issues started in Year 3. It was Year 2 they started in. The second half of his 3 year deal was all IL trips and question marks.
  5. And you're the same guy who didn't like, or still doesn't like, Gausman for what he got. But he seems to be pitching pretty darn well. Who are your big picks, notin? What are those trades you've got in mind? Edit: just noticed that Gausman has 54 K's and 2 BB's. That's ridiculous!
  6. I'm not saying "there's no one else". But it seems like a certainty the Red Sox are going to invest some money in another starter. So who should that starter be? I like Syndergaard, and if we get him instead of Eovaldi, cool. But how many other potential acquisitions are there that seem like better plays?
  7. The Sale extension was unusual because there were concerns about his health well before he signed it.
  8. Technically, Eovaldi was different from the others, because he actually became a free agent and we had to outbid other teams.
  9. Agree 100%. Feeling marginally more hopeful after the last 3 games, and that's it.
  10. Sure, Sale's original 3 years were great, although he actually started to sputter health-wise in Year 3. Thing is, we had to pay a very high price in talent to acquire those 3 years. And one of the players we gave up, Moncada, cost us $63 million, which isn't chicken feed either. I still say there's no rule to be followed. Every acquisition comes with its own costs and risks baked in.
  11. So Price is sucking. So is Sale, and he came by way of trade. Eovaldi was a free agent signing and he's been excellent. I don't think there's a consistent rule to be followed.
  12. So where's the "best place" then, exactly?
  13. I don't think there's been any report of one.
  14. As far as Thor is concerned, it's also possible the Angels sign him to an extension. They've got money too, as they periodically remind people.
  15. It must be said that Eo has been giving up a lot of dingers this year (resulting in a 4.54 FIP) when homers are generally down. So that's something to watch. His K/BB ratio continues to be outstanding.
  16. Syndergaard is another guy coming off TJ surgery. He's younger than Eo but he'll be past 30. Would you offer him more than Eo?
  17. $23-24 million, I think.
  18. I'm the one who voted for 4 years.
  19. Nor is ERod a great example of us "keeping on winning" without him...
  20. Which is about right for a #5 starter.
  21. Right. And who do they replace him with?
  22. He had a 2.6 bWAR last year. He was a bargain. Remains to be seen if he will be this year.
  23. Pivetta is making $2.65 million on a one year deal. You need some cheap labor somewhere.
