  1. The success of last year didn't hurt us.
  2. Turner was under team control for 1.3 seasons and 2 postseasons when the Dodgers got him. 2022 was his final arb year. Betts was only under team control for 1 season and 1 postseason.
  3. The only reason I can see for not making Houck closer is the future-oriented part. They probably have a certain number of innings they want him to pitch this year, and if they make him closer he won't reach that number.
  4. No, but it's the accumulated effect of losing multiple popular homegrown stars.
  5. You said Whitlock isn't helping the rotation. That made zero sense. Don't blame it on me.
  6. The Harley will though, if it's well maintained, right?
  7. Nah, Henry has gone cheap on us - how far do you expect to go on a $240 million payroll?
  8. None of that sentence makes any sense.
  9. The Dodgers are apparently in full agreement that he's not a starter, so we got that much right at least...
  10. The only thing wrong with Hill is that he's looked like crap 2 of his last 3 starts.
  11. Right, but with that fWAR you're talking Fungible...
  12. Graterol is a decent reliever and no more. 2022 fWAR 0.1. Probably better than most of ours, but that's not saying much.
  13. "Market value" is a nebulous concept with star baseball players, because you may end up in a bidding war with crazy people, the kind who will guarantee Corey Seager $325 mill...
  14. The Harley and the Triumph will hold their value a long time. Ballplayers aren't quite as reliable.
  15. Blowing an 8-2 lead in the first game was just ridiculous. That was a "statement game" of the worst kind.
  16. We're obviously just not that good. The fire sale is still on.
  17. The logic behind it isn't really that complicated. When the productive employees are baseball players, in order to keep them, you have to sign them to exorbitant guaranteed contracts that are based on past performance. You run the risk that they will soon become non-productive assets due to aging, injury or underperformance. And you'll still have to pay them. So you trade them for prospects and try to rebuild that way. None of which means I like the idea of losing guys like Bogey, JD, Eovaldi or least of all Devers.
  18. Is it just me, or are there are a lot of players with the first name of Tyler now?
  19. Batters faced by Hill in each start: 19 21 18 13 17 25 13 (gave up 4 runs and 7 baserunners in 2 innings) 18 So there's exactly one glaring example of him getting hooked before going through the order twice.
  20. But what about the third time through the order principle?
  21. Houck pitched 2 innings yesterday. Only 14 pitches, but it likely precludes the piggyback.
  22. At this point I don't think anyone outside of Red Sox management knows why they're not trying Houck as closer.
  23. Cordero and Vazquez have been a big help recently.
  24. If he is demanding a Betts contract, we're screwed.
