  1. Everyone is entitled to their outlooks. Merry Christmas, folks. Just having a rum and egg nog right now.
  2. Here's the thing. We finished 8 games out of the playoffs last year and 21 back in the division. Those are the deltas we have to make up. On top of that we lose our best player. And we had all that money coming off the books. That's why they were expected to be quite aggressive this offseason. It seems to be more of the wishy-washy approach that some accuse Bloom of at last year's deadline.
  3. A five year plan might be acceptable for a team that's tanking like the Cubs or the Astros did. Or a small market team like Miami. But not for a team with such a high payroll every year.
  4. It only stands to reason Bloom is going to add a starter. But the distressing thing is you can't be sure what Bloom is going to do. He never does what anyone here predicts as far as signings go.
  5. Hang'em prefers one year deals most of all.
  6. Devers was 134 in 2021, 141 in 2022.
  7. You're assuming that Devers, Story and Kike are all going to be healthier than last year. The odds are you're right, but it's no sure thing, plus other players may get injured. There are always injuries.
  8. The rotation is the X factor for sure. It could be surprisingly good, or it could be a disaster of biblical proportions. Having this much X factor usually doesn't work out well.
  9. Why should we give them a pass for not seeing where things were going? That's incompetence personified.
  10. We paid JBJ 17.5 million for one season, that's how it worked out. In the big picture that's not much money for a team like the Red Sox.
  11. The bullpen adds are good. Yoshida carries a lot of X factor. I hope he does well. If we call all those a wash, we're still a 78 win team.
  12. Bogaerts was a 6 WAR player last year. You can start from there. We haven't replaced Eovaldi, Wacha or Hill.
  13. Maybe they should've extended Bogey and not signed Story. Now there's a radical idea.
  14. It's the starting pitching I'm talking about. We're down to Eovaldi, Kluber, or a big trade.
  15. As for Bogaerts, it's the insistence that he was their "No. 1 Priority" this offseason that has made them look ridiculous. As I've said, their PR really sucks lately.
  16. It's the offseason we're going through right now that feels like incompetence. This was supposed to be the flashpoint, remember? Instead we're all scratching our heads.
  17. No we're not acting like they're saviors. Nice hyperbole LOL. They just give us more of a fighting chance.
  18. moon, I said ownership, and you started right back in on Bloom. Please read a little more carefully.
  19. It's not about the clock ticking any more. It's about the shelves being almost empty.
  20. It would be pitiful if that's the case.
  21. I think it'll be malpractice if they don't add that solid SP'er.
  22. They probably win 3 more games, according to WAR, but they also stay under the tax threshold.
  23. We have one guy-one-Pivetta, that we have a fair idea what to expect from him. The rest are all major question marks in some way.
  24. I think the issue with the innings for the guys you mentioned isn't health concerns, it's the fact they are inexperienced and unproven at the MLB level.
  25. And we're aware of that, but the Red Sox front office knew the only way Sox fans would accept a rebuild is if they were also trying to compete at the same time, so that's exactly what they promised to do. This offseason has been nothing short of bewildering. Where is that starting pitcher Bloom promised, the one with leadership, upside and innings? If he doesn't produce one, he looks like a ******** artist, an incompetent, or both. Red Sox fans don't forget when you say things like that.
