There's risk in everything. Betts and Bogey have been pretty consistent and durable over their careers, so they seemed like decent bets. I don't think anyone ever suggested big extensions for Benintendi or JBJ, but I could be wrong.

I agree, Verlander is one of those freaks that come along about once per generation. We saw it earlier in his career when he was able to maintain high heat into the 7th inning and beyond.

I hear what you're saying. Right now the Red Sox rotation and depth are so thin they may have no choice but to throw Mata in the fire like they did with Bello last year.

I can't really knock the Red Sox for being aggressive on Yoshida, for being aggressive on anything these days. Bogey is a separate issue, and I've been excoriating them for it.

And Bloom hasn't earned much cred with his "outside the box" approaches to the outfield and first base... Maybe it's going to take a truly epic debacle for changes to come. Right now we seem to be lined up for one.

Run prevention starts with pitching. I'm very worried about the run prevention abilities of our starting rotation as presently constituted. Unless they do something we're going to be seeing a lot of Winky, Kutter and even...Seabold.

The report that the Mets were considering Correa suggests they're not done yet this offseason. Cohen wants to buy a championship or two and he doesn't care how much it takes. He's already blown past all the barriers - there are no further penalties to be incurred, just more tax.

Detroit Red Wing fans still lament a period in their history known as the "Darkness Under Harkness". I sure hope this period in Red Sox history doesn't get looked back on as the "Gloom Under Bloom".

Correa's gone. I'll take Kluber and Andrus. I have doubts we'll get either one. Bloom never does the expected.

The Red Sox don't seem to have anyone in their front office who knows anything about PR anymore. That's what Lucchino was good at. Now they're a PR disaster.

Well, it illustrates that "market value" in baseball is sometimes just a phrase. $280 million was absurd.

But Henry's fingerprints are all over the pre-season offer. He already did it once, with Lester, so there's a strong precedent. I don't think Bogey was ever in the plans for 2023 and beyond.

Personally I think Henry is clearly the guy who's most responsible for the departures of Betts and Bogey. He's decided that handing out contracts of that size is not the way to go, and now he's digging in deep on that belief. I read an interview with Dombrowski, and he made it sound like the way he was let go was extremely cold. Henry never said a word to him at the time or since then. Dombrowski didn't say much about it, he said he'd rather not talk about it. But we're seeing a pretty long pattern of Henry being a prick, starting really with the exits of Epstein and Francona.

But then there was their ludicrous offer before the season. I just can't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. They're not passing the smell test.

It does seem to help me deal with the frustration, temporarily at least. I'm sure it's different for everyone.

Agreed, but we're not keeping ANY of ours, depending on the outcome with Devers of course.
