  1. I hate to say it, but this rotation and depth has the potential to be truly abysmal. Adding Eovaldi, Kluber, Wacha, hell just about anyone who can pitch, would make me feel a little better.
  2. Everyone talks about the OBP, but his SLG the last two seasons was .559 and .557. He did seem to hit the ball pretty hard.
  3. After the signing of Senga for $75 mill, their projected 2023 payroll for tax purposes sits at around $344 million. That's $111 million over the first threshold. I saw an estimate that their luxury tax bill for 2023 will be over $100 million! Their 2024 commitments already project them to be over next year's threshold.* It'll be their third year over the tax, meaning even more penalties. And Steve Cohen, who's worth around $17 billion, just don't care. I saw someone suggest that Cohen is going to be the cause of a hard salary cap in the next CBA, which seems like a plausible theory. * Sorry, Hugh. You don't have to pay off our bet, because it was too much of a gimme.
  4. The original source was Heyman, who does have a direct pipeline to Boras. It's been reported extensively, including in the piece below from MLBTR, and it's never been refuted. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/padres-xander-bogaerts-agree-to-11-year-deal.html So I think you're grasping at straws. Bogey got Johnny Lowballed.
  5. Pretty optimistic. You're predicting improvements for everyone in ERA, even though offense is supposedly getting a boost next year.
  6. The only that that's revealed, or confirmed, here about the Bogaerts signing is that the report that the Red Sox were making progress on a deal with him was total fiction. Some speculate it was used to drive up the price, but who the heck knows. We've already seen Heyman's faux pas about Judge being signed by the Giants, which was a bigger deal.
  7. I think it's also quite possible that Devers becomes disenchanted with the process of dealing with the Sox front office, and the state of the team, and just breaks off negotiations, knowing he's in line for a huge payday after 2023.

  9. So there are good nerds and bad nerds.
  10. And what W-L record does that translate to?
  11. Theo Epstein was a nerd. That worked out OK.
  12. OK, we have a bet, Hugh.
  13. Works for me right now.
  14. Maybe Henry was scared Bogey might actually consider an offer that was within 50 million or so of the best offer, so he made sure to be ridiculously short. Plus it was good for some laughs all over the sports world.
  15. It's an irrelevant question. The Sox offer was 57.9% of the Padres offer.
  16. I asked mvp about what years the really good free agent classes were, and he hasn't gotten back to me.
  17. Pretty sure no one can answer that.
  18. We won 78 and Detroit won 66. They got a higher draft pick. We're not so different!
  19. It really seems like the Sox FO misread where prices were going. Which is a plain and simple failure and casts more doubt on their acumen as it currently stands.
  20. Your contributions are always welcome.
  21. Bloom likes cheese, I guess.
  22. As the popular current saying goes, this just isn't a hill I'm willing to die on.
  23. Please understand, my complaints about Betts are not with Bloom, they're with Krampus.
  24. Schwarber can't field at all, or run. He hit .218. He struck out 200 times. He's not without obvious deficiencies. Would I like him as our DH in 2023? Hell yes. His power and his walks make him a big asset on O.
  25. You have to talk to Henry about it first.
