  1. Not such a big ouch to a guy who's worth 17 billion LOL
  2. They haven't actually made any other acquisitions yet, other than Kahnle.
  3. Sorry, when I said "this season" I meant 2023.
  4. It doesn't matter what any of us say, though. It's up to the team to know what they're doing. I think we've all agreed that there are no excuses for not making the playoffs this year.
  5. Are you sure that wasn't Rodon? Because that's exactly what he is reportedly looking for.
  6. 2022 pitching ERA by month: Apr 3.32 May 4.44 Jun 3.02 Jul 6.30 Aug 5.36 Sep 4.48 So the worst month was while Vaz was still with us. But August and September weren't very good either. Catcher ERA for 2022: Wong 3.72 Vaz 4.21 Plaw 4.32 McGuire 6.33 Maybe there is some hope with Wong.
  7. One could argue it's already three times, counting Lester. And Devers will make it a Grand Slam.
  8. Fans don't like being lied to. The Sox made it a point to say Bogey was their #1 priority this offseason. We now know that was a blatant whopper. And Bloom did say the same kind of things about Betts just before he traded him. And now he's saying the same things about Devers.
  9. This was all about the guy's offense. The reports say he's not a good fielder and may actually be better suited to be a DH.
  10. I don't think anyone said fix the pen and f**k the rotation, but I could be wrong.
  11. That's fine, but they also said the aim was to compete every year.
  12. It was also reported, mind you, that multiple other teams were in on Bogey with bids starting with 2. I somehow doubt that the Padres jumped the top offer from 162 to 280.
  13. Right, I already mentioned that theory. As far as Bloom looking shocked, all we have to go on there is the guy who reported it. Maybe it was like when you know someone is going to die, but it's still a shock when it happens...
  14. How do you think Bloom learned about it, then? I assume these guys are glued to their iPhones. Kind of makes sense.
  15. We won 78 last year. We've lost Bogaerts, JDM, Vazquez, Eovaldi, Wacha and Hill. That's a total of 13 fWAR gone. I think if the season started today we're looking at about 70 wins. Assuming they don't trade Devers. There has to be more coming.
  16. Losing Bogaerts the way we did has really soured me on the way our front office does business. The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back for me.
  17. Yes, he's honest about that at least.
  18. That's the only part that's yet to unfold. It's just a question of which sucky outcome they choose to lay on us this time...
  19. My pet theory now is that the Sox hope Devers just says eff this and breaks off negotiations, so when he leaves they have a shot at making it look like they tried, the way they tried with Betts.
  20. The good news is, Bloom has promised to add a starter who provides upside, leadership and innings. Can anyone guess who he's talking about?
  21. Yes, I wonder about that too. If Bloom knew the Sox were out of the bidding, why would he be shocked. I will say this, having read the interview with Bloom, he does have the gift of gab that's required of baseball executives and politicians, the ability to say a lot without saying anything.
  22. I think moon is probably correct that the Sox never had any desire to retain Bogey and the later offer was just for show. It followed the pattern of what happened with Lester exactly, except that they fell even shorter with their bids.
  23. For a long time we've talked about the possibility of rich owners reaching into their own pockets to spend on the team, and I don't think we've really seen it happen. Until Steve Cohen.
  24. Nothing wrong with a little dreaming in life.
