  1. Optimism is part of being a fan. Some of us have it even though it gets repeatedly crushed LOL
  2. I didn't laugh, I just thought a team that's 3 out at the deadline with some guys coming back from the IL owes it to the fans to give it a shot. This is a whole other scenario, because right now it feels like the team is trying to get worse instead of better. And now Bloom is talking about moving Story back to short and that his arm won't be a problem because of his range? The answer didn't even make sense. Bloom might redeem himself, but right now I have zero faith in him.
  3. If we tank in 2023, it'll be better for the future of the team, so why shouldn't we hope for a tank?
  4. I agree with your statement. As for the verdict on the trade, we can't leave out the differences in payroll costs.
  5. There are no good comps though, really.
  6. Fingers crossed that Wong makes the trade look a little better.
  7. You're right. Let's all drink a toast to the well earned ban hammering of JDavis76, one of the great moments on Talksox in 2022.
  8. Bloom pulled a Dombrowski with Yoshida, basically. He wanted the player so he was willing to make an offer he knew would seal the deal. Maybe Bloom estimated his bid would be 10-15% higher than anyone else's.
  9. What I'm saying is we'd know it by now. The $30 million insult is what the media is all over, I'm sure the Sox would correct that if they could...
  10. I'm well aware OPS is better. I seem to remember you extolling the virtues of OBP recently.
  11. They probably did the same thing as what you think they did with Lester. They never had intention of keeping either, and the rest was just for show.
  12. The Sox would have leaked it by now because it would make them look better, or they would have at least refuted that the $30 mill was the only offer. That's usually how it works.
  13. Very apt question. 2022 MLB 1B .324 DH .313
  14. They did finally offer him 6/162. I assume that was their max value for him. And it's a reasonable one.
  15. The scuttlebutt is that Xander was looking for Story-type money. I don't know where that came from.
  16. He also has a good OBP - .336 career, .334 in 2022 vs. MLB average of .312. I thought you liked OBP.
  17. It also generates a pile of extra revenue.
  18. If the Sox offered Xander $150 million before the season, we'd know it. The only thing reported was the $30 million bump, widely reported and never refuted.
  19. They should have offered him 6/150, that would have been a perfectly reasonable offer, 10 mill more than Story.
  20. You guys are nuts.
  21. We've got enough sour grapes to make a case of Joey Gallo wine. (Looks like 5 Gloves's insane punning is starting to rub off on me.)
  22. Thank God, huh? Wouldn't want them to give into temptation and sign somebody.
  23. Crybaby is the new cliff.
  24. They failed to show their love to a pretty good defender named Mookie...
  25. And if you defend Bloom you're a Bloom Jock Supporter, angry person etc.
