  1. Casas deserves time on O, but his D has been surprisingly bad. The net result is that he's been one of the worst players in baseball, unfortunately.
  2. No, the average WAR for a full-time position player is approximately 2.
  3. And Duran's fWAR is still 1.6 higher than Casas's.
  4. To be brutally frank about it, Turner's 0.4 fWAR makes him a below-average player. Maybe he'll get hot and change that. There's always hope.
  5. Here's the tale of the tape: JD 1st half 895 2nd half 864 Postseason (128 PAs) 987 Turner 1st half 806 2nd half 857 Postseason (368 PAs) 830
  6. I'm in on a friendly bet on this, sure.
  7. Nothing much surprises me in this game. It was moon's "book it" that got my dander up.
  8. Just ignore the postseason like it never happened, huh?
  9. No, he had a bad May, but since when do we give up on a young hitter who had a bad month but is still over .800 on the season? It's a game of adjustments and all that. If he sucks all through June it'll be a much different story.
  10. Sorry about that Dipre. As to your point, JD's fWAR is 0.9 and Turner's is 0.4. Turner's fielding and baserunning metrics stink. He's on pace for an fWAR of about 1.1. Just another mediocre stopgap.
  11. Bet on the possibility-now that's a new one.
  12. One good year? Didn't they win the division in 2016 and 2017 too? That's not a good year anymore?
  13. Plus he had great numbers in the playoffs. mvp is off the rails on this one.
  14. Would you bet actual money straight up on Turner passing JD?
  15. Yeah I don't really get bashing Duran either. His OPS is still above .800. Seems like our cherry-picking has gotten out of control.
  16. It's fine to be an optimist, but promising that a guy is going to make up 172 points in OPS is ridiculous.
  17. Yeah, I guess Sale provides a reason to punt both 2023 and 2024. 2025 here we come...
  18. Not horrible, just mediocre. The fact we have no shot at the playoffs is *partially* due to bad luck, in that there are simply too many good teams in the AL this year.
  19. I know you're older than me Max, but I've been with the Sox since the late Sixties myself, so I've got a lot of those same stories.
  20. If we see Sale again in the next month or two it'll be a miracle. And if he's gone a long time, it's pretty much game over for 2023.
  21. Outstanding fielders who can't hit are a liability, unfortunately. JBJ comes to mind.
  22. In isolation, it's mediocre. For a team with the Red Sox wealth and resources, coming off a 78-84 season, and an offseason where a lot of payroll room had opened up, it's less than mediocre.
  23. The key statement Henry made was about getting under the luxury tax threshold for 2020, which would have been the third year paying tax. I think he basically said it was something that had to be done.
  24. No question, pitching changes are the biggest source of second guessing.
  25. Speaking of standup, the great Steven Wright just published his first novel.
