  1. I'm not so sure. What about Mayer at short and Story at second? Story has an elbow issue. How many shortstops have had the same operation as him and had no further issues? I'm not aware there are any, but I could be wrong.
  2. But when you have 3 Hall of Famers manning the position for half a century, it's natural to overlook the fill-ins.
  3. The pitching book, right?
  4. Koji in 2013, that is. That was by far the most dominant stretch we've ever had from a Red Sox closer.
  5. Yes, but Story was also playing second base. And a lot of us thought that should continue. I still do.
  6. A trade can be cheap too.
  7. Bloom is the one who has put him on the payroll for 3 years, for reasonable amounts, but not chump change. So I think Bloom is kind of involved too...
  8. And Iglesias's defensive numbers last year were just fine. So yeah, he's an obvious miss, IMO. Bloom thought Kike would get it done.
  9. Iglesias signed a minor league deal with the Padres of all teams. What makes you doubt he'd have signed with the Sox?
  10. I think Iglesias definitely would have signed with us.
  11. We talked about Andrus and even Jose Iglesias. I think there were others available. The real answer is Bogaerts though. And that would have kept Story at second, where he played great last year and where his elbow would get less stress. They just don't listen to us!
  12. But was Chaim ever the head of ops there?
  13. Bloom is a risk-taker, you might say.
  14. I think he's right that some of us do it. I do it myself. I grind my teeth a little when Mookie has a game like last night. It's probably less about cheering against him than it is wishing he was still playing for us.
  15. Weirdness is kind of a Bloom thing too.
  16. Either way, it's on Chaim.
  17. Leave it to the f'ing Rays to have a pitcher named Kelley and a pitcher named Kelly.
  18. Of course some of our starters' numbers would look better if they had some competent defense behind them. Oh well.
  19. It's hard not to talk about when our actual acquisition in Kluber, and our actual rotation, suck. Are we supposed to just wave the Bloom pom-poms and say he's doing his best?
  20. They should never even have considered him for shortstop. Is it Bloom being stubborn, Cora being stubborn or both?
  21. It's a fair question, Denny, and I struggle with that myself. I think the answer is that when one of these guys does poorly with another team, it's less painful for us, and it validates that our front office did the right thing.
  22. And it really pisses me off that the Red Sox wouldn't top the offers of the Rangers for Eovaldi or the Rays for Eflin. These were not big money deals by today's standards. And please let's not hear again about how these guys went where they preferred to play. We all know that more money makes that go away in a hurry.
  23. And vastly more with Eovaldi.
