  1. He left out the part about when they're going to be awesome.
  2. I think 5 innings and 2 runs or less should be also be a Quality Start based on the current state of the game. 5 innings is all it takes for a starter to qualify for a Win, after all.
  3. They didn't do enough to have us in the race at the deadline.
  4. Exactly. And we know the fan base was pretty damn restless coming into this season.
  5. Except they had already reset in 2020 and 2021, and 2023 would have only been the second year over the threshold.
  6. Good luck to anyone who can figure out exactly what Bloom's strategy for run prevention was.
  7. It was in response to Cora being faulted for using him.
  8. In general I don't disagree with that. But it's peculiar that they're 16 million under the tax threshold this year (per Cot's Contracts at least) and middle of the pack in total payroll this year.
  9. Nice job by the front office, huh?
  10. What did they do with Kluber BTW?
  11. This kind of leaves one speechless.
  12. The fact Casas K'd 5 times in his last 2 games might have had something to do with it. I don't know. I think Cora generally does things for a reason. Also, haven't you argued before that Ref should play more against righties?
  13. On a linguistic note, "ill composed" is an excellent variation on "poorly constructed".
  14. I think that was more about giving Casas a night off. Also Ref had a double.
  15. We just mean fair on a proportionate basis.
  16. Thanks to Mr. Cohen, yes.
  17. In general, yes. But I think there's a reason the top closers make $15-20 mill.
  18. You framed it pretty well. A lot of stuff goes into these decisions. I think Cora is a guy who's always in the game and taking these things into account, which is about all you can ask. But obviously some of his decisions will still end up looking bad.
  19. Right. But the highest-paid closer makes about 50% of the highest paid starter - strictly in AAV, that is. So there's about a 50% adjustment for leverage LOL.
  20. OTOH, Joely's total bWAR for 21-22 was -.5. I'm guessing that doesn't rank him quite as high. As for the fWAR vs. bWAR for pitchers debate, I look at Rick Porcello's 2020 season as a somewhat hilarious example of how wonky the numbers can be. His actual ERA in 59 innings was 5.64. His FIP was 3.33. His fWAR was a terrific 1.6 for 1/3 of a season. But it seemed that no one was interested in signing him for 2021.
  21. You do have to look at what the other starter is doing. Lively was mowing us down, and he'd been pitching well coming into the game. That affected our chances of coming back.
  22. Cincy would have used better relievers with a smaller lead though, which means we could have burned Winckowski for the next few games and still lost. There's no way it was a clear-cut decision.
  23. I don't really get undervaluing from what you quoted in your following post. It seems like they're trying to equalize things as much as possible.
  24. That puts us in a tricky spot, since we can't draft and develop much in the way of starting pitchers.
