    The one caveat being that the Yankees without Judge are not a good offensive team. But hopefully they keep it going. To me it's especially encouraging to see Whitlock being able to go that deep in games.

    Good point, moon. Bogaerts was in a nasty slump for a while there, owing partly to a sore wrist, apparently. But let's take a look at some hard cold metrics: Xander Bogaerts fWAR 1.8 bWAR 1.7 FUBAR 1.75 Kike Hernandez fWAR -0.4 bWAR -0.3 FUBAR -0.35 Yes, I think that qualifies as making the team worse.

    Neither the long term deals nor the short term deals have been working, so it's best to stay away from starting pitchers altogether.

    To be fair, Bloom has been allowed to put 3 long term, big-money deals on the books-Devers, Story and Yoshida. No starting pitchers on that list though, of course. Hopefully that comes next.

    If a closer blows around 10% of his save opportunities, he's a great closer. It's a game of percentages.

    Yep. And we were supposed to be better than last year. Way better.

    The total guaranteed money that Eovaldi and Wacha got between them was $60 mill. You could almost call that the bargain bin in 2023 economic terms.

    "Starter" actually has two meanings in baseball.

    Again, does this mean we should hate the Raffy extension? I think one of the main reasons that Wacha and Eovaldi are lamented is that they were not at all expensive compared to some of the other deals handed out, and they were hanging around a lot time. They were there for the taking.

    That's not longer than I expected, unfortunately.

    He actually hit well in September in both seasons and in the 2021 postseason. Cool weather hitter or something like that.

    The 5 year plan idea makes a lot of sense. It explains why they held back on spending this year and why they keep signing starting pitchers to 1 year deals. Presumably they'll make some big moves next offseason. But man, are they going to endure a lot of abuse in the meantime.

    To be fair, Danny, the Bruins might have taken backlash, but they didn't fire anybody, they just got rid of the player.

    We have to figure things out for ourselves, because the Sox FO: 1) Lies a lot. 2) Employs a policy of omerta to perfection.
