It's true though, it isn't our job. And we do come up with lots of great ideas, but Bloom consistently ignores us.

For me it's just general frustration with this year's rotation and Bloom's failure to improve it. Add in the lousy defense that's also inflating our runs allowed as a bonus.

The success with Wacha is tempered by the fact that Bloom didn't re-sign him on a cheap deal.

I don't think anyone is saying Eovaldi was a slam-dunk must-have. But he had a lot more upside than Kluber. And Bloom said he would acquire a pitcher with upside. I guess that was just a whopper.

The question I have now is whether he actually pitched good last year. A 4.34 ERA for a guy who pitches in a pitcher's park didn't use to be considered good at all. He had a 3.0 fWAR because of a 3.57 FIP, I guess. But I question whether fWAR for a pitcher is all that reliable. His bWAR was 0.8, which sucks for that number of innings.

One think we've talked about is that Bloom hasn't hired any guys away from the Rays, so that could be part of the problem.

Bloom does avoid financial risk by never signing a starter for more than a year, it's pretty hard to argue with that.

Maybe Red just figures it's Bloom's job to make the team better, not his.

One thing I had forgotten to check was Kluber's H-R splits last year: TropDome 3.71 ERA 1.09 WHIP Road 5.05 ERA 1.36 WHIP

And nobody topped the much lower deal that Kluber got from us. So that should have told us even more about how s***** Kluber was, right?
