    Oh no, the dreaded words, "count on". 😊 (Those words were used a lot arguments about why it made sense for the Red Sox to trade Sale - i.e. they did it because they couldn't count on him for 2024.) Nice article. My take is that we don't have much choice but to count on Story and Casas for 2025. I'm actually more worried about Casas's rib area injury and the long-term effects on his baseball swing. I think we need Story badly now as this team is constituted, for his defense, his RH bat, his smarts and his veteran presence. It's good to see that Casas's defense has improved, that makes him more valuable too. All I can really do is go full Pollyanna and hope for healthy productive seasons next year

    100% agreed. And as much as I've been ragging on him, I don't dislike Henry and I'm not campaigning for him to sell. But there has been a change, and it did start with giving up Mookie, and the results so far have been ugly.

    I do notice that Cora is talking differently this year. Last year he sent some messages to the front office about being frustrated with the deficiencies in the roster. This year there's very little of that, everything seems much more upbeat and philosophical. I guess that's what happens when you get paid.

    His total numbers for the year are not bad for a good fielder. But the trend is alarming. With an approach like his, MLB pitchers armed with a year's worth of data might just carve him up.

    It only stands to get worse. In his last 32 games, 36 Ks and ZERO walks. A ratio of INFINITY. Yikes, I know I'm sounding like poster Fred Lynn here, but the numbers are what they are.

    To get to the heart of the matter, has any player in MLB history had an extended career with a K/BB ratio of 9 to 1?

    His 2024 K/BB ratio seems unprecedented for a player who's made it this far. I would have thought it's unsustainable. He's making Will Middlebrooks's and Bobby Dalbec's MLB career 5 to 1 ratios look good by comparison.

    I hate to say it, but I don't think Rafaela is going to make it. 145 Ks and 15 BBs is ridiculous. Pitchers don't even have to throw him strikes any more.

    And that includes a really good first half of July for the Red Sox. Counting the resumed suspended game, the Sox are 23-35 in the last 58.

    Somewhere I saw or read an interview with Yaz in which he talked about Lonborg. He said Lonborg was a very tough guy and would actually ask Yaz if there was someone he wanted him to hit LOL And this was when pitchers had to step up to the plate themselves after hitting someone and might get plunked themselves.

    Yeah, it's nothing for us to worry about. It is eerily similar though. As is the roughly 100 year span between selling Ruth and trading Betts.

    Living as I do about 650 miles away, I've only seen a couple dozen games at Fenway in my life. Not nearly enough. Definitely among the most pleasurable hours of my life. Often enhanced by alcohol, needless to say.
