  1. Well, this has been said many times already but I think it's true. In 2013 the Sox signed good character guys. Then they went completely against that by signing guys like Pierzynski and Hanley.
  2. I know it's a word that's used, but there has to be something better than 'handedness'.
  3. This game thread will be a hard one to top.
  4. Chad Finn is a good man.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a 'change of heart'.
  6. Which gets talked about more here, Rick Porcello's ERA or his WHIP?
  7. Well OK, that's just this guy's arbitrary criteria. Screw him. On this site we normally used good old Earned Run Average, and Beckett's ERA for his start was 47.26. Bard's was 26.99.
  8. Here's a boxscore from 2006 where Beckett gave up 7 earned runs in 1.1 innings. That does appear to be worse than 5 earned runs in 1.2 innings. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA200606050.shtml
  9. Because we now have one of the worst bullpens in history.
  10. Yeah, it is pretty specific. It belongs more in the category of most horrifying starts. It signaled that a guy's career was suddenly ruined.
  11. What do you expect from Sox fans? We're brutal. Pettitte was a good one. Consistent and durable. Theo Epstein said he's hoping Lester's career path will be like Pettitte's.
  12. Porcello's season resumes on Wednesday against the White Sox.
  13. I hear that. But they have really done their best to make themselves look like terrible investments.
  14. His innings are pretty much in line with what they were in 2013 and 2014. But he does seem to be worn down and should probably be DL'd or shut down for the year.
  15. I would say a secondary reason for people being OK was that they thought JBJ was ready to step in.
  16. The truth is that nobody wins on the big free agent deals except the players. Only a small % of these deals come close to value for the teams. The Yankees made that huge splash before 2009 with CC, Tex and Burnett. They got a championship out of it so maybe it was worth it. But they ended up getting burned on those deals eventually which is what almost always happens. The Sox approach has been a disaster the last two years. There's no easy road to success even for big money teams.
  17. That sucks. On the positive side, the Yankees lost and the Jays are winning.
  18. Porcello's extension doesn't start until next year, so the verdict is still out on that money.
  19. Wow. Cool fact.
  20. How the hell am I twisting the argument? Not re-signing Ellsbury was the right move. It's not part of the reason 2014 and 2015 have sucked. That's all I've been saying all along.
  21. $22 million a year is much too much for an average-hitting corner outfielder. If you say Cruz or Cespedes would have been much better than Hanley I can't argue.
  22. We would be better off defensively with anybody other than Hanley out there.
  23. The loss of Ellsbury hasn't affected us much this year. As someone here said, our offense is fine - it's the pitching, stupid!
