    Sure. But now Lucchino seems to be the fall guy for any moves that smack of box office, like Sandoval, or arrogance, like the $70 million offer to Lester. And the latest is that Larry has been nudged out of the picture in favor of Werner. It seems to be anybody's guess who's running the show.

    By the same token, we can't trust our owners to hire someone better than Cherington.

    Yes, amazing as it is, I think Farrell deserves to be fired more than Cherington does.

    I understand. And sometimes what the analysts say is pure horseshit. In this particular case I think that's what it is. I'm not saying that Sandoval's postseason numbers weren't a factor. I'm saying they weren't the determining factor. You don't shell out 95 million for a player based on that. Just my take.

    It's a great place. I've always enjoyed Maine myself, even when just driving through it enroute to Boston or other US locations and coming back. It's very similar to NS.

    Sandoval may be a bad signing and a stupid signing, but there's no way the determining factor was his playoff numbers. I think everybody on this forum realizes you can't evaluate a player based on their playoff numbers alone, especially not one you're investing 95 million in. The average Joe Fan knows this. It's obvious. Some of these analysts just form their own conclusions based on assumption and speculation.

    The problem with that is you have to find a new closer for next year. They've got enough to fix at it is IMO

    It's all speculation who's making the calls on these things. If Ben was opposed to the Panda signing, he should take the Cashman route. When the Yankees signed Soriano to that 3 year, 35 million deal, Cashman came right out and said it wasn't his idea. He kept his job and I think he actually gained some credibility.

    I'm liking what the Jays are doing, for one simple reason - take down those MFY's!

    That may well be a valid defense for Ben. I'm not sure it is for Farrell though. Too much underperformance and too many in-game blunders, physical and mental.

    Is left field in Fenway really the easiest position on the field? I know it's small real estate-wise, but it seems to me there have been a colossal number of plays butchered out there over the years, by us and opposing teams alike.

    Anomaly is kind of a key word here. With their 2015 'strategy', the Sox may have been trying to replicate a 'formula for success' when in fact they were trying to replicate an anomaly - a formula that usually fails.

    The Royals have the best record in the AL. They have a 3.68 team ERA. But check out the starter/reliever split: Starters 4.35 Relievers 2.18 So sk7326 is certainly correct that the Royals are succeeding despite a weak starting rotation.

    Taz is a premier 8th inning guy.

    I think there were a few other factors that contributed too. 1) 'Young free agent' 2) Supposed solid defense 3) Panda merchandise A grab bag of goodies that was too hard to resist.

    Wright's ERA is over 5 now. We have 4 starters with ERA's over 5. One really bad outing would probably put Miley's ERA over 5 too.

    And Lester and Lackey are rubbing their noses in it right now.

    To me it kind of makes more sense for a team with a smaller payroll like the Royals to employ such a strategy. For a team with one of the highest payrolls to do it still seems wonky to me.
