  1. And how did Baltimore make out after that advice?
  2. Yes, let's give it a shot.
  3. That is a sinister observation.
  4. I thought you liked WAR now, after your post about Yaz's 1967 WAR.
  5. This pitching matchup has trouble written all over it. Need some reverse lock magic.
  6. I don't really disagree. But when you make questionable moves like in Thursday's game, the binder becomes an object of derision. Just human nature really.
  7. Everybody knows that, but the advanced metrics actually try to calculate the number of runs these two save, which is sort of cool IMO... It's like everybody knows Papi is a great hitter but it's nice to know his actual HR's & RBI's etc....
  8. All about optics, isn't it? Schilling looked smart with his notebook. Girardi looks like a doofus with his binder.
  9. You don't ask much LOL
  10. And even if the binder works, it's one of those things people will make fun of.
  11. What I said was someone would take his contract.
  12. Thank goodness we have UZR and WAR now.
  13. We had a game with the Yanks this year where their starter had to leave the game early and Girardi had to trot out a parade of relievers to cover the innings. We did nothing against the relievers, the Yanks won and folks on the game thread were lauding Girardi and talking about him schooling Farrell on how to manage. After this weekend's series Girardi has been getting absolutely hammered by Yank fans and media for how he managed. Too funny.
  14. Nobody's going to trade an ace pitcher for Hanley or Pedey, that's for sure, but there are teams that would be willing to take on their contracts. Pedroia's especially. His contract has 5 more years at a total of 71 million - 14.2 million per season. Very reasonable by today's standards.
  15. This is when the correct answer is "run differential rules".
  16. Anyone who tries too much to be a Nostradamus at baseball ends up looking like a Nostradumbass.
  17. But Pedroia has a .431 OBP at leadoff. Are you happy with his overall performance at leadoff or not?
  18. Opinions on managers vary considerably from one fan to the next.
  19. As in, you hate the O's more when they're better than the Yanks?
  20. Earl Weaver.
  21. 89 pitches is phenomenal. The man has been unbelievably stingy with the walks. He would be my pick for the Cy Young now.
  22. Yes, poor Yaz - he made the final out in the 1975 World Series, down a run, and the final out in the 1978 playoff game, down a run. The cruel twists of fate.
  23. Oh yes, the extra rest is a good thing, but what has really saved us is not just the quantity of arms but the consistent quality of the pitching we're suddenly seeing. If you remember the nightmare of September 2011, in spite of the callups we didn't have anybody who could get anybody out...
  24. I for one am thrilled to see the Yankees having bullpen problems. For a while there it looked like they might be having 'the best of both worlds' by trading Chapman and Miller for a haul of prospects, and then winning games at a higher rate than they were before the deadline. Now those moves are hurting them, for this year at least. Seems only fair.
