  1. Without Buchholz, though, we have absolutely no depth in starting pitching. That is why he is valuable right now.
  2. Starting pitching depth can be an extremely high need. It sure was this year.
  3. Word of the Day: Carp To find fault or complain querulously or unreasonably; to be niggling in criticizing. Example: 'To carp at minor errors'.
  4. He's pretty valuable to us right now...having him as a #6 pitcher/swing man for 13 million is a nice luxury...the Sox can afford it.
  5. And if he does that you pretty much have to keep him. Sort of a Catch-22.
  6. Clutch will always be extremely difficult to measure for hitters. Even if they are clutch they still fail most of the time. The advantage always lies with the pitcher and the defense.
  7. I sincerely hope he's got a better reason than that for not posting.
  8. According to Fangraphs 13 mill should get you 1.8 WAR or something like that. But whatever...if he keeps pitching like this the rest of the way he'll have earned his money, and he'll be back next year for another ride.
  9. Yes, bWAR has him at one-tenth of a game above replacement.
  10. Kimbrel is the closer unless he really loses it.
  11. Yeah, this was one case where the announcers were being kind of silly questioning what was going on.
  12. He looked good. When Koji is on his game he is like an artist out there.
  13. Good answer, you belong in politics.
  14. As somebody said earlier, Clay is like the cat with 9 lives.
  15. Buch's 2010 peripherals indicate that his ERA benefitted from a fair amount of good luck. He had a good season but not quite that good.
  16. Some of this stuff is just random ******** luck. Last night we scored 5 runs, but we also would have won if we'd only scored 2 or 3, presumably.
  17. In 2012, just to mix things up, his good stretch was mid-season, from about mid-May to mid-August.
  18. I believe that for a lot of owners it's not just all about the money. The money is crucial but the biggest rush of all is holding that championship trophy. I think Henry is one of those owners. Otherwise he might have cashed out already in one of those periods when things have been sour.
  19. Clay is more Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde than any pitcher I've ever seen. Beckett was somewhat like that too but Clay is the champ.
  20. I don't know about brusing his ego, but 7 straight K's and 10 in his first 18 PA's quickly raises the question of whether he should be here.
  21. I think the 87 pitches had more to do with his irregular schedule - that was his first start in 2 weeks.
  22. That was Clay's first PA since June 18, 2015 and the 13th of his career. Can't really expect much.
