  1. It's all relative to what other teams are doing. We're at 4.65 runs per game, which is major league average, but since we play in a hitter's park we're actually below average. That's reflected in our OPS+ of 95. I'd say we're underperforming by .5 runs per game below expectations.
  2. Just for the sake of discussion, how exactly is Showalter a micro manager?
  3. Our offense has been mediocre and our pitching has been excellent. Does that mean the offense has been doing its job? It was expected to be better than mediocre.
  4. No, the 2 years are 2017/2018.
  5. I would hazard a guess that Weaver, Larussa, Showalter and Maddon all have or had higher than average IQ's. I think baseball is a game that can make anyone like look a dummy.
  6. Those pitches have definitely been getting a lot of big hugs.
  7. When it comes to in-game decisions, all a manager can do is exercise good judgment on a consistent basis. The rest depends on how well his players are performing. As has been said many times, bullpens especially tend to vary widely in performance from year to year. Showalter and Maddon may be managing just as well this year as in other years.
  8. There are no easy fixes for the third base situation, and as bad as it is, it's not really going to make us or break us.
  9. Yes, we're winning more than we're losing thanks to our pitching. But if issues develop with our pitching we'll be in trouble. And those issues are potentially there, with Porcello looking lost, E-Rod out for a while, and Price still somewhat of an unknown.
  10. This is just wrong. We're 1 game out of first because the Yankees are in a skid and we've won some close games thanks to an incredible run by our bullpen. But even the board's paragons of patience are puzzled and concerned by our ongoing run-scoring issues.
  11. Hanley's a tough trade at any price. He's a mediocre and injury-prone DH.
  12. As much as Girardi should get for Tanaka's (etc.)
  13. Sandoval seems pretty close to being gone or benched, considering that Rutledge has been getting some of the starts against righties.
  14. Rutledge isn't very good of course but he gets on base at least with a .323 OBP compared to Marrero's .195. Maybe they also think Rutledge's D will improve with more reps. Frankly they're kind of grasping at straws at the position.
  15. Kimbrel is 4th (with a 2.0) behind Mookie, Sale and JBJ.
  16. There's nothing overrated about a 45-23 record.
  17. Maybe not masterful, but I can't think of too many clearcut mistakes he's made this year either. That's good enough for me.
  18. If you look at the Red Sox bWAR rankings right now you'd swear someone was putting you on. Kelly 7th, Pomeranz 10th, Barnes 11th, Robby Scott 12th.
  19. This bullpen 'should have' been a problem. Almost all of them have pitched better than expected, some much better.
  20. Too much hate there, man. JBJ? You gotta be kidding.
  21. They were told this by our crack medical staff?
  22. Well, I guess it's good they finally diagnosed the issue...I guess... I hope our crack medical staff didn't miss something earlier...
  23. As far as 'fire' goes, the team's overall attitude seems good. They've had some adversity and some stretches where they've looked awful but they've been resilient. The only issue I can see so far is the sloppiness on the basepaths that's been mentioned. It would be very nice if they could stop giving away so many outs there.
  24. Can you hear that sound? I think it's... Rolling Thunder!
