    Yeah, of course a man on third base with one out can score without a hit. I'm not a big fan of bunting but I didn't mind it there with Beni struggling, X-Bo coming up, and perhaps above all another run very important at that point.

    I don't know if it's because I'm getting old or what, but I don't have the patience I once did and I do tend to be more reactionary to recent results.

    Run scoring and home runs have increased the last couple of years. The ball is juiced, guaranteed.

    As someone else pointed out, though, if warm weather makes hitters better we'll be giving up more runs too.

    There's no way of knowing what to expect from Beni the rest of the way. HRam and Sandoval are huge question marks because of their nonstop health issues as well as possible decline of skills. We've had a few guys perform better than expected-Bogey, Moreland and the catchers. We really shouldn't be too optimistic about improvement IMO.

    But some stats are meaningful and some are, arguably, totally contrived - pitcher wins, losses and saves for example.

    I wouldn't go that far just yet but I understand the sentiment. I've had serious doubts since the outset.

    WAR is supposed to be a composite stat that reflects the total value of the player.

    I agree you with about the long season. But I don't think the offense is going to magically improve. I think it is what it we've seen. It's a sporadic, middle-of-the-pack offense.

    But if momentum is a consistent thing why do we hit into so many DP's and have so many LOB.

    What we'll probably see is Pablo starting at 3B vs. RH starters, with Marrero replacing Pablo in late innings, and Marrero starting at 3B vs. LH starters. As sk7326 says it's all shuffling until they decide Devers is ready.

    Pretty good analogy. I'm an accountant in Canada and we advise all our clients to grab the Canada Pension Plan benefits as soon as they turn 60 instead of waiting until 65.

    We've heard SO much about the 'relief ace' deployment thing and the way Francona used Miller...is this something that could make a significant difference or not?
