    I get that. But if you sign Chris Young II you have to pay him, and you also have to keep paying Castillo. That's the point.

    There's no indication he didn't understand that. A callup of Castillo will probably incur luxury tax, but his salary is indeed a sunk cost, so it could be cheaper to call up Castillo than to sign a free agent at dollars similar to Chris Young's deal for example.

    If if and buts were candy and nuts... You could also argue that Ben was quite fortunate in 2013 with the years they got out of Victorino and Napoli and Drew, guys who then turned around and couldn't play or who stunk the very next year... There's luck involved in being a GM without a doubt.

    Well guys, it's quite possible he simply didn't want to play any more. He said his feet were causing him a lot of misery last year.

    It's everybody's business now because the story got out and it's the internet age. At the least, Farrell probably should have realized this was going to become a problem and he and Price should have both personally apologized.

    There's nothing wrong with the Sox bullpen though.

    The Verlander contract really hasn't been that bad. The Tigers weak farm system has probably been the biggest issue.

    I think 4 straight division titles is a good run, although it was a weak division. 4 straight years in the playoffs is not short term by my definition.
