  1. Of course there's a script, a pattern, a game plan or whatever you want to call it. That's the way baseball is now. The average starter goes 6 innings so you need to cover the last 3 with your bullpen. If you're winning but it's close you use your 3 best relievers, assuming they're available. If other s*** happens you handle it accordingly. Every manager does virtually the same thing.
  2. So I guess this is the gist of it: If the script is followed and the relievers do their job, the script is good. If the script is followed and somebody blows their job, the script is bad.
  3. I don't get the point here. Of course there's a pattern. Do other managers do things differently than this? Correct me if I'm wrong but just a few days ago everyone was delighted with the performance of our bullpen.
  4. That's not correct. I only looked up 2013, but Koji entered the game in the 8th numerous times late in the season and in the postseason.
  5. I think sometimes these huge free agent deals are the best things for a player's bank account but the worst things for their careers.
  6. Their rotation will tell the tale.
  7. It's a long, long season.
  8. There is not one sliver of good in Pablo's numbers. He has a bWAR of minus .9 in only 32 games. That extrapolates to a bWAR of minus 4.5 in 160 games, which I'm guessing might be a contender for the worst bWAR in history.
  9. You were advocating trading Pedroia at the start of the 2016 season, when he was 32 years, 8 months. At the start of the 2008 season Ortiz was 32 years, 5 months. 3 months difference.
  10. And the best part is, we're doing it with no fire! (Sorry.)
  11. Besides which, Barnes served his suspension, he's back and pitching pretty well, everybody moved on from it...it's old news.
  12. Just a bad signing. The Red Sox have enough money that they can handle it. Move on and be done with it. I expect he'll be released shortly.
  13. Trading Pedroia at the start of last year was not a good call. Another team would have gotten a 5.7 WAR player for a bargain price.
  14. And how many times have you written him off in the past? Last year you had Trade Pedroia in your sig line and he ended up with a 5.7 WAR. You'll be right eventually, of course.
  15. Is the season over already? Bummer.
  16. You are really on top of your posting game these days, Max.
  17. Their starter has a bit more of a major league pedigree than Velazquez. It was a debatable move, but I don't blame Farrell for not having a world of confidence in Velazquez.
  18. Farrell pulled Velazquez for Abad with Hosmer and Moustakas coming up. Hosmer had already homered. Abad didn't do his job but it seemed like the right move.
  19. That's about right and it's good enough for me.
  20. He'll do something pretty soon, but it just might be the promotion of Devers.
  21. There are separate stats for 'inherited runners' allowed to score.
  22. I think because Henry wanted to stay under the luxury tax threshold.
  23. If that's the way you see it that's fine. Personally I think that because a team is doing well as a whole doesn't mean every part of it is performing.
  24. This is a little surprising but it makes sense when you consider that it's not a home run park and home run rates have been soaring, probably because of a juiced ball mandated by Manfred.
