    Touche. But Chapman seems to have been cleared, so to speak. Actually it's going to be interesting to see how the Chapman signing is received. I'm pretty surprised by it, frankly.

    Great stuff but a lot of question marks too. Probably the biggest issue is that it's only 2 years of control. Some would say "well just sign him to a big extension right away". But then he's not much different from a big-risk big-money free agent.

    No, the new Wild Card setup has increased the crapshoot factor a lot. Every year is different, of course. This year was not so much a crapshoot. The 2022-2024 Rangers pulled a 2012-2014 Red Sox-outhouse to penthouse and back to outhouse.

    We're all just guessing, of course, about what will happen if it turns into an all-out bidding war. Cohen scares me to death if that's what it comes down to. He seems the type who would literally throw "eff you" money at this. I think we really need Soto to prefer to play in Boston.

    I think the big difference is that Cohen owns the Mets 100%. He can do whatever he wants without answering to anyone. Henry is only the biggest shareholder of Fenway Sports Group. There are a large number of shareholders involved.

    I think if Juan Soto is looking at this strictly as an EBay auction it'll be the Mets. Very difficult for the Sox to outbid Steve Cohen when he's the sole owner of the team and he's worth over $20 billion.

    If you believe that, you must also believe that it's strictly baseball reasons that no one will touch Bauer, I assume.

    C'mon harms. Boston fans pine for pitching, that's all. And Seattle fans probably wouldn't object to getting one of the Sox big 4 prospects, I don't think.

    Sorry moon, I accidentally removed the last part of your post. I can't answer that question about Dermody. But we live in a hyper-sensitive environment now. The Duran incident did in fact turn into a pretty big deal, and I think if there's a repeat occurrence it could put the Sox in a very uncomfortable position.

    You'll have to ask Stan Kasten about that... Since this is all wild-ass speculation, I think it's possible some Dodger players might have liked Bauer but still voted for releasing him because of the distraction factors and even maybe on moral grounds...
