  1. It's just his little comedy shtick, Thunder. He means no harm, really.
  2. Might as well say it: it could still be a problem. Cora is obviously not feeling a lot of trust of it and is trying to push the starters to go deeper.
  3. I don't think anyone wants to sign him for more than 3 years. With regard to the durability aspect, he might be one of those physical freaks who just doesn't break down like most guys do.
  4. Yeah, these paternity leaves are pretty damn questionable. And you'd think ballplayers and their partners could time things to have their kids in the offseason.
  5. And yet our regular first baseman has an .893 OPS. I assume it's Pearce dragging us into the depths there.
  6. Stats fall into different categories of course. From the simple, familiar 'stats' no one can argue about to some of the new and sophisticated 'analytics' or 'metrics' that a lot of people don't understand and are suspicious of.
  7. 23-20 is the main conclusion.
  8. Would you settle for 'getting on base opportunities' then?
  9. That's the thing about fielding that's different from pitching and hitting. With pitching and hitting the opportunities are guaranteed.
  10. While I'm venting on the topic of miserable prick sports fans, here's something that always amuses me. For most sports fans, there's nothing worse than a player who doesn't hustle. But with a player like Pedroia, you will also hear comments about his 'reckless' style of play, diving for balls and so on, and it's not really a compliment, because the implication is that the style of play contributes to the player getting injured as much as they do.
  11. One stupid moment in a long career.
  12. It sort of makes me appreciate Ted Williams's incredible 'screw you' gesture to the 'Fenway faithful' when he homered on his final at-bat but refused to acknowledge the crowd that wanted desperately for him to take a bow.
  13. But some stats need to be viewed in context and not in a vacuum. Just because a fielder didn't have any plays in a game doesn't mean they had a bad game.
  14. The ruthlessness of the sports fan. If you can't perform for us, we would prefer that you just go away.
  15. It gets a little political, cp, no question about that. I was a little disappointed by dgalehouse's post yesterday where he went off on the 'sabermetric savants' here and their 'condescending ********'. It really encapsulated some of the hard feelings you get between the two sides.
  16. Interesting observations. Raises the question of whether a fielder should be penalized that much for having their range impacted by another fielder. Or as some might say, don't you still want Jackie out there to make those catches like the one on Trey Mancini? Mookie wasn't getting to that one!
  17. Not 0.0 or worse. But probably 1.5 or worse - which is average or a little less.
  18. Here is where I actually place a lot of reliance on WAR. JBJ had a 2.8 fWAR last year with a .717 OPS. You would think if the OPS was .650 the fWAR would be pretty low.
  19. I honestly just try to find the best in both New School and Old School views.
  20. The Fielding Bible award is the one that matters now.
  21. Sure it's a fair topic. I just don't think anyone can answer the question.
